For our Offensive Line to actually show UP this go round!!
KB had no time to do JACK last year as our O-Line stayed in the locker room.
This Clemson team is however more focused, better disciplined and just overall more talented top to bottom.
If we end up playing Bama this year, with a healthy Trevor Lawrence???
It’s GAME ON!

I'm not sure that the Oline played much differently last year than the year before when we won the game. The main difference was what happened behind the line of scrimmage.
A small part was RBs not picking up blitzes and free rushers. A much larger part was reads and getting the ball out quickly.
I remember thinking that the coaches must have been calling designed QB runs instead of read plays because several times the ball clearly should have been given instead of kept. Maybe that was the case but given that we have heard since then that KB would often predetermine to keep, it may not have been the coaches.
Also Dabo was seen several times trying to cut KB to cut the ball loose on pass plays where he held it a little too long. I believe that I have heard that there was a guy wide open over the middle early on the INT where KB was hit and the Dlineman got the INT.

his arm so they loaded up to stop the run and dared us to throw the ball. Period. There's not an OL in the country, including Bama's own, who could've stood up to being rendered one dimensional against their D pinning their ears back and bringing it like their ### was on fire.
It was pretty much the same OL we had the year before when we won the game. The difference was the QB and to a degree no Gallman to block. Wouldn't have mattered if Leggett and Williams were still on the field because KB wasn't going to get it there.

Whoever Clemson plays in the semi is gonna face a Trevor Lawrence that will have close to a month to prepare. And his performance in the semifinal will only increase his confidence should Clemson make it to the title game. He's improved significantly since September (which is expected), and unlike KB, he's shown the ability to read defenses and adjust protection, which KB didn't do.

I would love to play one of the media darlings like Ohio State, Oklahoma, or Notre Dame in the semi. I have no doubt we would wipe those teams off the field. I love beating those teams. I know I'm in the minority around here, but these are the teams I think ESPN and others over-hypes even more than SEC teams. I think Alabama, LSU, and Georgia are legit. I don't think the other teams I mentioned are.

Trevor Laurence just needs to play his game and the team (both offense and defense) need to show up. The Syracuse game, even before Laurence got hurt, was not a good look for Clemson. It just seemed like the team was not focused at all, which was weird for a home game.
Since then they've played much more complete on both sides of the ball.
Increase the number of defensive looks to better hide intent. Clemson has been REALLY bad about giving away their plan (drop, blitz, edge) all year long in my opinion. If I see it, then I know the army of analyst at Bama see it.

You are correct sir. There were a lot of distractions in the week leading up to that game. Clemson got punched in the mouth, but they were able to respond like a championship-caliber team would. Your Tide and our Tigers are on a collision course and I wouldn't have it any other way

Alabama is NOT infallible...
Nov 1, 2018, 9:35 AM
|
|
Their third down defense has not been great this year
They are prone to give up big chunk plays
Tua has not been tested by a really good defense
They commit A LOT of penalties (the Tide ranks 107th right now in penalties)
Their kicking game is a little suspect (both punting and kicking).
The run game is not as strong as it has been in years past.

The kicking game isn't suspect. It was caught red handed with the murder weapon, video taped, and signed a confession. It's just.....I don't want to talk about it.
On a serious note, our running game is actually excellent. I mean, 5.2 yards per attempt is solid isn't it? It's just that, if you've watched, that Tua kid throws pretty good. So they let him do that. I can say that this is the healthiest our RBs have been this late in the season in my lifetime, and it's not even close.
I think you'll see a healthy dose of them this weekend vs LSU if you watch.

Tie or win in turnovers. Low number of penalties. No missed FGs. No more than 2 sacks of TL. Reasonable OL protection and time for TL to throw.

Offense is going to have to play a great game and TL will

hopefully expose Bama secondary. I think depth issues will be a real concern for them once they reach game 15. Any more injuries there could really compromise the back end.
Defense is going to have to play a complete and cohesive game to stop the Bama offense. D Line will need to play with the best effort and focus they ever have. We will need consistent pressure with 4 man rush, not only pressuring quickly on the blitz.
Our LB's and secondary will need to play lights out in coverage. We can't give Tua any easy outlets deep down the field, he has proven that he will take advantage of them. Coverage will need to be tight, no busts and aggressive timing to break up the passes. (like bama does it, hitting the WR slightly before the ball gets there - we played like this against NC state IMO.)

Nov 1, 2018, 10:09 AM

Alabama recruits at a very high level so talent and depth is not a real big issue for them. However, experienced depth might be.
Saban doesn't tend to clear his bench like Dabo. He prefers to play his starters much later into the games so the back-ups don't tend to have as much game experience.

I don't think we would have to play perfectly to beat Alabama but obviously very well. I think our defense it better than theirs. Tua is a madman and our secondary would really be tested. So I guess my answer is our secondary would need to play near perfectly and then with a solid performance we can beat them.

I do think the key is pressuring Tua. Looking at the games early on when he got pressure he was more apt to throw the ball away early or try to run. The issue the teams they have faced hasn't been able to pressure him much and he has all day to throw the ball. I'm not convinced that his O-line is the reason he's had that much time. The teams they have faced are for the most part that bad on defense. I think Louisville is averaging like 1 sack a game and had one against Bama. So that's not very telling on how the O-line is. It will be interesting this week and see if LSU can get pressure on him and what he does to respond. As far as running on Bama it seems like teams are running for quite a few more yards on them than in previous years. So it does look like you may be able to squeak out a few more yards than the past 3 season we've played them. That will really open up the passing lanes if we can make them stack the box to stop the run. That could be a way for LSU to slow down Tua as well. Keep him on the sideline.

Just looked at the box score of that game. I know their defense was stifling us but I forgot how close that game was late. If we hadn’t have coughed up the ball and forced ourselves to play catch-up, who knows...

Survive the first half. Honestly they always try to bully you and kill your QB. Remember the year we won? Plus the start so quick. If we can take their best shot we will wear them down in the second half.

Intercept the first two crossing passes Tua throws and run them back for TD's . Hope the officials call them for their dirty play / holding . Pick up their blitz and burn them with screens and dump passes .

This is kind of a ridiculous questioned based on a false premise that they are better than Clemson. They have not yet faced a quality opponent with a defense that has a pulse. The Clemson offense before TLaw became the starter was not explosive enough to hang with Bama...Now they are! The Bama Defense gave up 31 points to Arkansas. This years Bama defense is the worst I have seen Bama have since the playoff era started. Clemson has the #1 scoring defense and #6 scoring offense. If, however you were to just look at the games since TLaw became the starter, not counting the game he was injured, Clemson would likely be #1 in both. The more fair question should be...What is it going to take for Alabama to beat Clemson????

Last 3 games Clemson outscored opponents 163-20 including 1 ranked opponent. Last 3 games Alabama outscored opponents 162-52 including 0 ranked opponents
Combined records of Bama opponents faced last 3.....9-16...all last or next to last in division Combined records of Clemson oppnents faced last 3...13-10..all are at .500 or better
None of Clemsons last 3 have losing records, all of All of Bamas last 3 opponents except Mizzou are below .500 and Mizzou is at .500.
So...Tell me how the Clemson team is not as good as Alabama since Clemson has been starting TLaw which is only the last 3 if you exclude the Syracuse game in which he was injured early.
The talking heads make it seem as if Bama is much better now...the numbers tell a different story.

You have to outscore Bama this year. This is the best WR corp and QB I've ever seen under Saban. They also have three 5 star RBs and a pretty good 3 star who started last game.

We are "equipped" to beat Bama! You have to be able to control the Line Of Scrimmage. We have the players who can do that. Particularly be able to rush Tua off the edge which is a huge check mark! Nobody else has the pressure we can bring off the edge. If they get tired, in comes XT and co. Challenge them vertically on offense and don't turn the ball over! Saban teaches his DB's to take away the obvious throwing opportunities! What if TL has a unique arm and the technique taught has the kid saying: "i'll give him that b/c he can't make that throw"? They take away the gimme throws. But, having an elite arm means you can throw it to where the DB technique suggest he can't - and make it. Be sound in special teams. Not giving up a on side kick or a fake punt. Maybe even being successful on something like that ourselves.

Idk at this point but I can guarantee the team has not given that a single thought. So maybe we should figure out how to beat Louisville first, then after that BC, then Duke then SCar.
Maybe by that time we’ll have a much better idea how to beat Bama...if we even need to.
