After watching WES first interview, I can't help but

Worry about him as a recruiter, no doubt we is a brilliant mind and dabo knows how great of a football mind he is....I'm not at all worried about his coaching abilities.
But good lord he seems like rain man for real, a genius with the social presence of a rock...
I have been extremely optimistic through this whole process, but im terrified of wes on a recruiting trail

Why don't you wait until the 2023 class is finished before you make a judgement?

I haven't made a judgment at all, I'm simply afraid of his recruiting abilities, tell me one thing that gives you optimism about Wes as a recruiting.
Dabo on the subject didn't even sound convinced.
He said wes will do fine, he's been around here a long time, he will do fine"
Other than dabo saying "he will do fine"
What should give me reason to not worry?
I LIVE AND BREATHE CLEMSON FOOTBALL....I LOVE CLEMSON FOOTBALL...IVE BEEN THROUGH THE HARD TIMES...I LOVE WHERE WE ARE AND WANT TO STAY HERE
You guys who see only the positive and never worry don't truly care....ANYTHING IN LIFE YOU LOVE....YOU WORRY ABOUT
GOOOOO TIGERS

Honestly, if I listen to most the coaches talk the only one I have faith in as a good recruiter is Dabo. Being a good interview doesn’t translate to being a good recruiter. Brent never seemed like a great recruiter based on the interviews I watched him in, like another poster said wait until his first class the. Ask questions, but don’t ask them based on how an interview made you “feel”.

If there is one thing Dabo hasn’t proved it’s his ability to recruit and develop coaches. I’m 100% Dabo missed this very significant piece of his responsibilities as a DC during his decision making.

OK you become the new defensive coordinator and let a bunch of cameras get thrown in your face for the first time and see how you respond.

I watch the interview and I’m not worried at all.
Wes was deeply genuine in the interview. This will sell well with most recruits. Kids don’t wanna hear BS and they hear a lot of it on the recruiting trail. It won’t sell well with some recruits. But that’s fine, he will connect with the kids that we want.

For example, did you hear the hoops announcer just say that while recruiting PJ hall Brownell told PJ “you probably will not start your first year”.
Smart kids see value in a genuine coach; smart kids want to play for somebody thats not gonna lie to them.
My guess is Wes is going to be very genuine in his recruiting style. If you’re looking for an assistant coach that’s going to BS the recruits, I don’t think you’re going to see that under Dabo.
Wes looks great.

Speaking of Kool Aid, I fine it interesting that after a young man’s first interview that you reach a conclusion about his ability to not relate to recruits. After running a half billion dollar company with 1200 employees, I regret that I have no ability like you to reach a conclusion after what I thought was a respectable first media interview. Hopefully I will develop such skills to read people’s abilities on first sight.

Not worried. He’s not the only one recruiting and we have lots of good recruiters on staff. Kids wanna play with a chance to win championships, and somewhere that will help them with NIL and has proven sustained success. We have all that. Y’all looking into this too much. Kids gonna keep coming.
P.s He was visibly nervous but I would be too. He’s not used to cameras and he’s naturally a more introverted type guy. Not the end of the world people. Just cause he doesn’t need a get back coach doesn’t mean he won’t be good. Relax. Go tigers!

He doesn't have to recruit at all. There are others to task with that.

Even TE and BV never gave polished interviews. Dabo is very very rare. So comfortable in front of a large audience or on TV

Danny Ford was the best recruiter Clemson will ever see and his recruiting record of 8 years in a row with a CONSESNSUS top 10 class is the gold standard. Remember the facilities that we had or did not have at that time. What we did with all that talent is another subject. Dabo is right there with Danny although a completely different style. Not every coach on the staff has to be the great recruiter or the closer. When Tennessee was near the top back in the 90's the recruiting was primarily handled by a single coach. A bit unique, but it was Phil Fulmer and he owned North Carolina, North Ga, and much of South Carolina. Lots of wins including a Natty. Dabo should be more than capable of handling Clemson recruiting with along with a few coaches and the resources at his disposal. Recruiting is his best asset IMO although he will have he weather the NIL and portal changes to continue to be successful.

To be a hood recruiter. Not everyone is attracted to the all surface personality types. Goodwin can show that he knows defense and I’m sure he will be fine

Wes is 10X more polished in front of a camera than Danny Ford ever was. So he coached with Ellis Johnson and BV. Well, Ellis was top shelf at Clemson and dominated Clemson during his stint in Columbia. One of the best. Don't know if Wes can talk black eyed peas and cornbread with a 17 year old from Pavo or Lula Ga but we shall see. I really wanted an outside hire. I was PO'd that Dabo didn't even see who was available. Actually feel much better about the hire after listening to him for 3 minutes. Go Tigers
