Taking my hubby tomorrow for back surgery, so any prayers would be greatly appreciated. They're working on a stenosis at the base of his spine that's pressing on a nerve, but the good news is that he should recover in three to six weeks. He's 79, so I'm not real happy about the anesthesia he has to have, but he's in God's hands and will do fine.

Oh goodness! Are they just cleaning out the stenosis? I’ve had multiple back surgeries including a fusion at L5-S1. If I had it to do over, I wouldn’t do it (the fusion). I also have narrowing of the foramen and central canal stenosis in almost every vertebrae. Arthritis destroyed my neck and back. I know what he’s going through and pray for relief and a successful surgery. I also pray that he has no issues with anesthesia. Keep us posted on his prognosis and recovery.

Re: Long but the absolute truth of one of my days after back surgery

Please know that I have maybe seen this after he's had his surgery but rest assured that he has my prayers for a full recovery back to some normalcy bc back surgeries can be one of those surgeries that he nor the Dr's will have a clue of what he may end up with. I'm telling you and sable that I'm praying for him to have 100% success, but I can tell the both of you to thank God if his surgery turns out to being only 50% better than he was before surgery. I'm not at all trying to darken your hopes of a complete success, but I've had 4 back surgeries and none of the 4 IMO made me 50% better than I was before any of my surgeries, and you will learn through your visits back and forth to your neurosurgeon that not all that many if any were a 100% success, and what I've learned after since 2006 when my back surgeries began, you will meet some that had 70-75% success, and a bunch of them that's had 50- 65% success of being better than they were before their surgery.
With me I've never had what I would call being 50% better than I was before. That's bc I've never had a complete 24 hours without any pain that hasn't needed pain meds to help control my pain, and the older that I get the worse my back pain gets but, most of my increased pain had been mainly bc I trusted the Dr's and let them operate on me 4 different times with the last being the spinal cord stimulator that I let them implant up through my spinal cord with a 2 1/2 by 2 1/2 inch square battery right above my butt cheek that I control with a remote determining the strength I want to set the stimulator power. With everybody that I've talked that has the stimulator says the very same that I say about it, and that is it didn't a thing for the back pain, but it has been a plus for the nerve pain that I've had in my left leg since the day that I injured my back.
With surgery 1 and 2 was trimming off the disc that was squeezed out from between my vertebrates, they tried trimming the disc off two different times, but more disc was being squeezed out after they would trim it off. Trimming the disc wasn't successful, that is when they did surgery #3 by just removing all of the damaged disc and fused lumbar #4 and #5 together. If the pain that I was left with after the fusing was all I would've had to deal with I would have been one of those that was 60-65% better than I was before the surgeries, and I could have lived with that easy for the rest of my life.
But about 6 months after the surgery the nerve damage from all the other surgeries started showing itself and started causing me the pain that I now have a little bit at a time after time passed. From those nerves being cut during the 4 surgeries having them to sprout two nerve ending with every nerve that was cut or damaged, they have grown into the muscle on both side of my back bone that at first it would take some time before they would get really angry from muscle tightness and causing me to have severe muscle spasms where the pain is absolutely crippling to where I can't move no muscle in my body bc it causes the nerve pain in the back muscles to intensify with unbearable pain, and the only way to calm that pain is to get into a certain position in my electric recliner, and only the electric recliner will work bc it will adjust to any position unlike the manual recliner that will hold in predetermined position. As time passed through the years the nerves were getting even angrier in a lot less time than it would take from the beginning to what I have now, and that's not allowing me to move very much at all before the nerves send my back muscle into severe muscle spasms that is absolutely crippling and that's even after the years of me leaning to live with a lot of pain...
Trust when I say that Sable is getting the best of how my prayers to God are being asked bc I would never want anybody to have to suffer through some of the pain that I've been cursed with for years. But hopefully, I will get some good news from a new neurosurgeon that I've never seen or heard of before until a guy that I met was telling me that he went through the very same issues that I've been going through since about 2008 after my last back surgery was done. I get to see this neurosurgeon on the 15th of this month, and I'm also praying my butt off and my heart out that this neurosurgeon can and will help me. I've got insurance, but if I had to, I would hand over everything I own to anyone that could take me away from the h e l l I've lived through for the past 18 full years. Honestly I would do unthinkable things for someone that could allow me to live my last years without the pain that I have. I'm a two insulin shots a day with two different types of insulin everyday, I'll be 72 come November, and I really don't think that I have all that many years left with the living, but I would give up everything that I own not to live my last years in this kind of pain bc the pain has gotten to where all I can barely do is walk to the bathroom and back, and that short distance isn't done without a lot of pain...
