Medicaid Expansion....

So, there are 10 states left that haven't expanded Medicaid, per the ACA:

Alabama, Mississippi, Georgia, South Carolina, Tennessee, Florida, Texas (this looks like the SEC, lol), Kansas, Wyoming, Wisconsin...

What one thing do these states have in common? They have legislatures that are majority-GOP.

But, North Carolina expanded Medicaid in 2023 via a GOP legislature working with a Democrat governor. Each year, a state or two is accepting the expansion. It seems that eventually almost all states will accept it, but it could take another 8 or 9 years. And this year, it looks like Mississippi might be next.

States that haven't expanded Medicaid have on average about twice the level of uninsured as states that have expanded Medicaid.

Unemployment is 3% in SC and 3% of the SC population is on Medicaid. Why expand?

You let us all know about those high wages everyone is getting and no inflation now because of Biden. No urgency.

There are people who are employed and have jobs....

or who live in a home with someone with a job who can't afford health insurance. Medicaid helps this population.

In SC, there are about 76,000 people in the medicaid "gap", who make too much money for Medicaid but not enough to qualify for ACA subsidies.

South Carolina should go ahead and expand Medicaid to help this vulnerable population. North Carolina did this last year, and are reaping the benefits. South Carolinians are paying for other states' expansions, and getting nothing in return because Republicans are thinking...."something something i hate poor people and soschulizm"....

How duped did those liberals feel when they had to pay the ACA fine at tax time for not having insurance?

since the penalty for not getting insurance was zeroed out during 2017 by a GOP congress.

At this point, there is no penalty for not purchasing insurance.
