country in offensive rebounding. We evidently put no emphasis whatsoever on this in practice. Or if we do, we suck at it coaching wise. Most of our possessions are "one and done", we either make the shot, or it is equivalent to a turnover, because we do not get many, if any second chance opportunities.
This is not a response to last night's game, it has been this way all season. Some of these close games might not have been so close if we could just get a FEW second chances now and then. Yeesh.

I’ve been told using 1, 7, or 14 year statistical samples of Brownell’s work are misleading and unfair.

Were strategically not offensively rebounding to keep our players fresh.

Not doing it all season long will ensure that once the tournament begins they’ll be ready to unleash havoc on the boards!!!

I hate to bring up Houston and Coach Sampson again and compare them to BB.......but Kelvin has a slogan he beats into the brains of his players: "Our offense begins when a shot is missed." The difference in the 2 programs is in the coaching......not the players.

Hard to grab an offensive rebound when all 5 players are outside the 3-point arc.

No worry there if you shoot well. In total rebounds are are better than Duke, Kentucky, Kansas, Texas, South Carolina, Baylor and teams we lost to, Notre Dame, Miami and NC State.

I would be curious to see how many offensive boards Schieffelin has compared to the rest of the team…

Yep this right here. We have actually been more active on the offensive boards this year than most of Brad’s teams. Not sure how much is Scheifflin but I have seen others not turn tail and run as soon as a shot goes up more than a few times this year. Coincidentally I believe we have been better because of that sometimes change. Seems when we revert to 3-ball we don’t even try to get a board though. Something about long unpredictable rebounds hargle bargle.

The defensive philosophy pretty much impacts as this as I believe the emphasis is getting back on defense as you see players always retreating when we shoot. I don’t agree with it but it has been a staple of coaches belief to not give up the quick basket on other end and to get back.

Well, yeah, duh! Having your center jack up 10 threes, while the entire team sprints to the other end of the floor, means you're not going to get a lot of rebounds. But Brownell knows what he's doing, so don't you dare question the strategy. He's having the players save their energy they might expend on fighting for rebounds, you know, for the NCAAT.

I think that maybe you have grabbed Offensive Rebound % vs Offensive rebounds per game. Regardless, Clemson does not rank very high nationally and it probably doesn’t really matter unless it correlates to Winning %. In fact, the ACC doesn’t have a team higher than #70 in this category(UNC). Georgia Tech is #71 and not the team I would benchmark as the program we wish to be like this year. UVA and VA tech both rank over 250 in this category. I have attached the data for transparency.
My opinion would be that based on Chef’s offensive rebounding (2.8/game), that we give it a slight emphasis.

I think that's a philosophical thing with Brownell. He emphasizes getting back on defense to a FAULT.
