I mean they have one school, one, that even plays D1 football. The conference doesn't even sponsor football. For the other conferences, our fans are coming to the end of a grueling football season when basketball tips off. We're tired and emotionally exhausted from tailgating, traveling, cheering, and complaining and then we have to instantly shift to basketball. It's too much! The BigEast? Their fans spend the fall casually watching the leaves change, intramural ultimate frisbee, and attending lobster boils. When basketball tips off they are rested and ready to go. There is no way these other "real" conferences can compete.
The schools that were serious about sports, BC, Cuse, VT, and Miami, they left and came to the ACC. Granted Syracuse isn't a real sports school, their mascot is an orange! They're from New York. Oranges don't even grow there. Come on! And VT, their mascot is a turkey, and get this you can buy turkey legs to eat in their stadium. What? Miami, their mascot is a hurricane, a storm. These storms often wreak havoc during, you guessed it, football season. But they do their biggest damage in Florida, Miami's home. Great mascot pick guys. At least BC has a real animal for a mascot. Bald Eagles were repopulated in Massachusetts in 1989. This means for much of their history, there were no bald eagles in their state. So even the serious sports schools that abandoned the Big East have some issues.
All this to say, yes they are having a good NCAAT and all three schools in are a serious threat to win it all. But again their fan bases are rested due to the otherwise boring nature of their schools' existence.
