I’ll wager that this academic year the winning percentage of our football team will be better than the CU men’s basketball team by the end of this basketball season (about 2 months from now).

Seems odd that you are so willing to bet a team you support fails. Most "fans" actually hope their team wins their games.

Our football team finished the regular season 8-4, a winning percentage of .667.
We play 31 regular season games in men's basketball, and a 21-10 record would be a winning percentage of .677.
That would mean a 9-6 record the rest of the season for our basketball team. I believe we will meet or exceed that performance.

… whether he meant a 9-4 record or an 8-4 record. I didn’t see anything to imply regular season record in his original post. Therefore, the basketball team would have to go 22-9 for the regular season.
Does that 1 game make a difference for your accepting that bet? 🙂

Trying to make it fair by omitting a post season win? But we shouldn’t be surprised by any effort by you to undermine the accomplishments of the football team. Spin, baby, spin.
Don’t understand why anyone would want to bet against any Clemson team.

You most definitely undermined the football team with that post. As you do at every opportunity.
And the comment about betting against any Clemson team was a general comment about the entire thread. You see, when you start another paragraph it indicates a change in subject or topic. At least to most people.

in football if you’re not in the playoff then you can avoid a loss by winning a single game. You can’t do that in basketball. In fact, you can have tourney success but still have to take 2 losses if you are not ACC or NCAA champs. You’d have to go a minimum of 4-2 in the ACC and the NCAA combined to maintain a .667 win %. 5-2 to match football team if you were tied with them heading into postseason play. 5-2 in postseason basketball would be incredible for Clemson basketball. I think you would almost have to make any wager based on reg season alone and then make a separate bet on postseason success/failure.

I have been confident they would do a lot of things but after time you learn that things are what they are. I do not expect Brownell to just start figuring things out after the amount of time he has been here.

We were the 5th or 6th best conference last year and we are again this year.
Finishing 3rd then bowing out in the ACC tourney then losing at home as a #1 seed … those things completely override your worn out “3rd in the ACC” (supposed) accomplishment.

in our entire basketball history, and have never won the ACC Tournament, I recommend starting with the ACC for comparison purposes.
Plus, since the ACC is more of basketball conference than a football conference, and we spend less on our program compared to most ACC teams, doing well in the ACC shows that we are doing something right. It’s a huge accomplishment for a football school like us with the poor basketball history we have.
It’s fine to look at other metrics too. Regionally, we compare favorably to South Carolina and Georgia in recent years when it comes to basketball.

And knowing that, why bail out on Brad's opportunities for post-season bumps?

9-4 was our record this year. Not sure why you throw out the postseason game......oh wait never mind. Sadly our basketball team since joining the ACC (1953) would have beat our current football winning percentage of 69% a total of THREE times.

Since you were ambiguous, I decided to make it as fair a comparison as possible.
Basketball teams play at least one conference tournament game, and if they qualify for postseason play (which we will) they play at least one postseason tournament game as well.
Our football team did not have a postseason ACC game, much less a series of postseason ACC games in a tournament format, nor did they qualify for the playoff with the chance for multiple playoff games.
This is your bet and you can do it however you like, but you should be more specific next time. Otherwise, you leave it up to others to assume.

Be a better bet if you would just bet on if they finish higher in the polls than the football team. Basketball plays to many cream puffs to make that a fair bet.

The crazy thing is that if it happens this year it would be only the 2nd time basketball's percentage has been higher than football during Brad's stay. The only other time was Brad's 1st year. Basketball went 22-12 and football lost that stupid bowl game in Charlotte.

Typical Judge Keller fallacy - a bit of red herring and hasty generalization wrapped up in a single sentence. It’s non-responsive to the original post, attempting to redirect the issue. And, more important, the underlying implication that Clemson prioritizes basketball differently than most of its primary competition is wildly untrue. Troll on.

Hasn't stopped countless programs from winning conference and natty glory, along with programs with ZERO history here getting it done.
Basketball has a Top 40 national budget. Brad has us averaging 75th place at season's end, including last year's 'great season' that plummeted to the 70's thanks to our late season fold.

dramatically come ACC Tourney and NIT Tourney time - with that ONE exception - make sure you hang your hat on that ONE time - that 7% occurrence - Cultists.
And historically, what we've earned is a reputation of a basketball team that is exactly like the coots in football . . . . for the entire history of the ACC. (And that history has NOTHING to do what we COULD be going forward.)
That's the reputation we have.

Tired of the same movie year in and year out. Doing the same thing expecting things to change is just asinine. There is no defense for the typical meltdowns that will hit in January and February. Fans don’t want it or pull for it but now expect it.
Not sure how a fan of a better basketball program chooses to defend the current era. All I can say is wow!!
And the ACC is no longer the powerhouse you want to believe it is!

really straight forward . . . .
Our football winning percentage was 69.23%
When the basketball season is over - the final record of our basketball team has to be better than 69.23%.
Nobody said anything about regular season, etc, etc.
Why do you Cult guys make it so complicated ? Ohhh - that's right - because you have to because our doorknob coach sucks, so you convolute with a buncha crap that doesn't matter.

It would be more impressive to see the basketball team finish ahead of the football team in the final AP poll, which would mean something inside the Top 20.

I guess you sports geniuses don’t realize that both FCS and FBS are part of D1 and are all eligible for the AP poll. Once again proving that you’re both FOS trolls who strangely have this exact same gap in their knowledge about college football.

FCS and FBS are both Division 1? And FCS teams are eligible and have received votes in the AP poll. And they are just as unlikely as their corresponding basketball programs to be ranked, so more straight up bs from Judge Keller.
