For those totally still against Coach Brownell's future?

At Clemson, what would change you over after this season?
I would say no matter if they lose tonight get back to the NCAAT next season to finally get to consecutive NCAATs would be a convincing way to do it.
That would be 4 NCAATs in 8 years imcluding two sweet sixteens.
I also want to see Coach finally win two games in an ACCT and eventually get an ACCTC in the next few years.

Most importantly your first point, follow up this season with another tournament appearance and that’s a positive trend

I object more to the people here that have their noses stuck in BB's rear than I do to him as the coach.
He has done fine.
I don't expect a national championship or final four with him but we could do a lot worse.
I haven't bothered to do it, but I'd guess if you tracked the talent level of the team with respect to having a professional career in NBA/Europe vs the rest of the ACC we'd see his results are outperforming our talent level.
He has graduated players and we aren't hearing about any disciplinary or legal issues.
The free throw percentages are good and that really has won us games we've lost in the past.
As much as we hated seeing us lose to BC by 20+ in the ACC tournament, I've seen us lose by 50+ to Duke and those types of blowouts haven't happened under Brownell.
My goal for Clemson basketball is to usually compete for spots in the NCAA tournament and occasionally do more. It's ok to also occasionally do less.
It would be awesome if we could get to the point we expect to make the NCAAs most of the time.

I would never hire an employee with your mindset. I have much higher expectations for the people I lead and I hope Neff does too.

Not for or against him in particular, but the modern standard should be NCAA tournament 2 out of 3 years, so consistency. We should not ever go 3 years without a tournament appearance. The recruiting appears to be improving and certainly the portal worked for us this year, so let's do that again. Hopefully, this is the beginning of a golden era.

He really has not accomplished much in 14 years. I also don't dwell on basketball much.

I am not against CBB, so not who you are asking. But with with the players we lose off this team, if we make it to the big dance again next year would be good. I want us to be competitive in the ACCT, but that is much less important to me than it used to be. Getting to big dance is much more important.

Some consideration should be given to the fact that last year

We should have been in the NCAAT.
Need some players that generate “excitement” _ hard to say what that entails? Fans don’t seem to be fired up over CBBs teams.

Why do you people insist on saying “we should’ve been in the NCAA tournament last year”?, the selection committee did not pick us, therefore we did not belong. It’s just sour grapes, it sound like the kid that got picked last for the kickball team.

Why does the ACCT matter unless you're not making the NCAAT and need it? Winning a regular season ACC title is much more impressive.

I actually agree but he has neither. And - when he's needed the tourney to make the tournament he has flopped. We'll never know what would have happened in 2020 but he would have needed to win the whole thing to make the NCAA tourney.
Maybe the first round win against BC got them in 2010-11. 2012: 0-1 ACC Tourney, no postseason 2013: 0-1 ACC Tourney, no postseason 2014: 1-1 ACC Tourney, NIT (Could have conceivably played ourselves in. We were 23-13/10-8 6th in ACC 2015: 0-1 ACC Tourney, No Postseason 2016: 0-1 ACC Tourney, No Postseason 2017: 1-1 ACC Tourney, NIT 2019: 0-1 ACC Tourney, NIT (20-24/8-8 could have played ourselves in) 2022: 1-1, No Postsesason 2023: 1-1, NIT (Would have played themselves in with one more win)
It's just an atrocious record that has had negative consequences. And if other coaches have the attitude the ACC Tourney is less important if you're confident of a bid, it makes this performance that much more embarrassing.

I read this question as "What do I think Clemson basketball should be capable of under a good coach?"
Recognizing that no coach will run up undefeated seasons over and over...
Improve NCAAT appearance rate: 4 times in 14 years (.285), never having consecutive bids is not what I would like to see. Something more like 3 times in any 5 year period (0.600), including consecutive bids.
NCAA win rate: Brownell is actually doing fairly well in terms of winning games in NCAAT once he finally reaches the NCAAT (he's won 5 of the 8 games played so far), but a Final Four would be sweet.
Improve ACCT seeding and win rate: not a lot of success. Finish in top 5-6 most years, get double-bye every 3-4 years. Get to the ACCT championship game. Win an ACCT championship.
Don't lose any Quad 4 games...ever. Or at least no more than once every 3-4 years in an unexpected squeaker. Losing more than 1 in any year is inexcusable.
Stop allowing players on the other teams to have a season or career high in almost every game.
For those saying "Browell is winningest...Brownell has 2 Sweet 16s..."
"Under Leggett, the Tigers reached the College World Series six times.[2] As of the end of the 2012 season, he had a career record of 1,224–694–1, with seven conference tournament titles and 23 NCAA tournament appearances. He was named Atlantic Coast Conference Baseball Coach of the year in 1994, 1995 and 2006.[3] In 1994, his team won 57 games, a record for the second most single-season wins in ACC history (behind the record 60 wins set by the 1991 Clemson team).
But HE got fired, while Brownell coasts along with much, much lower level of success.

I agree with most of what you are saying. I think 60% making the NCAAT is reasonable moving forward. I don't necessarily care about ACCT success. I think we need to do away with conference tournaments. There's absolute zero reason that tournament should count more than the 30 previous games played over 4+ months.
You said: "Don't lose any Quad 4 games...ever. Or at least no more than once every 3-4 years in an unexpected squeaker. Losing more than 1 in any year is inexcusable.

Plenty of teams lose games they shouldn't. I do agree that it should be no more than 1 per year or maybe no more than 1 loss every 2 years. The top 50 NET had 5 combined (New Mexico had 1 of those).
As for having an opposing player have a career game, what does it matter if you win the game? W/L is all that matters when it comes to an individual having a great night, in my opinion.

To take away the hot seat. He should not have to coach for his job every single year. The narrative is getting really, really old. He is proven he is a great coach and has built a solid program. Give him and extension then settle in. The Lunatic Fringe Clubhouse should be put on the market.

of story.
He has had a very good run this year and deserves another year... but history says our next two year will be average at best and we don't win ANYTHING that matters.

Let him settle in? You’re the lunatic fringe you’re ranting about.
NCAA Tournament. Every Year. That should be the expectation. Missing the tournament 4 times in 14 years should be closer to realistic expectations than making the tournament 4 times in 14 years. At this point, he’s a year by year coach if I’m Neff.

The level that Clemson basketball SEEMS to be at right now, should be the BOTTOM

Make the NCAA more than 50% of the time, advance more often than not, and be competitive in the ACC tourney (which Brownell NEVER has).
So if THIS is the best we can expect, it is simply not enough.
Now, he deserves another year after this run, and a SHORT extension and small raise... but reduce the buyout.

Supporting the current coach is not "nose up"

Should be a normal thing to support the current coach of a team you love. There is equals zero you can do about changing it. To compare CBB to Tommy Bowden is ripe.

As a professed Brownell detractor , I still stick to my guns that he only wins when his job is on the line. I want to coach who is a winner and will bring home an ACC tournament championship, regular season championship, or a final 4 appearance sometime in his tenure. It doesn’t have to be every year, but at least once. With Brownell, we know what we’re going to get. No championships, and he’ll win a couple tournament games when he’s facing termination and keep extending his contract. I hope we make the elite eight tonight, but unless we reach the final four, my opinion will not change.
