Hit Piece on Tony Dungy ...........

19

Jan 24, 2023, 4:19 PM

from the garbage rag "The Guardian" on one of the finest men that ever played, coached, and broadcast the NFL. It is obviously very slanted and not only takes things out of context but contains downright lies. Quoting Keith Olberman destroyed any credibility the rag may have had ...... although it has never been credible to me.

And, the attacks are getting stronger and more blatant every day.

One of my duties, as a Christian, is to try and prepare my fellow Christians for the persecution that is coming. I'm probably old enough where I won't see the same kind of persecution that Christians in other parts of the world (ME, Africa, China, etc.) are facing. But, as I tell my Bible Study class (Senior adults), "I probably won't live to see it, but your children and grandchildren probably will. They need to understand and be prepared."

Our culture is not pro-Christian. It is not even neutral on Christianity. We live in an anti-Christian culture (and getting moreso every day).

Very interesting you chose Matthew 7:1-29, and point out

5

Jan 25, 2023, 8:48 AM [ in reply to Re: Christianity is under attack in America. ]

one of the most misapplied scripture. Did you miss these verses in that same section?

15“Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves. 16 You will know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes from thornbushes or figs from thistles? 17 Even so, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. 18 A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit. 19 Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 20 Therefore by their fruits you will know them." - Matthew 7:15-20

What does that say? It says, you CAN recognize a person's action and judge their "fruit", i.e. their actions. You CAN recognize their bad motives. Contrary to what society says, there are moral absolutes. And, I choose not to support people who go against the moral absolutes.

Does this mean I am supposed to condemn (judge) them? No, I can't condemn anyone to an eternal sentence. It does mean that I can lovingly tell them of their errant ways when compared to that moral absolute. If they choose to seek further understanding, great. I will tell them about the forgiveness that comes through Jesus Christ. If they choose to ignore it, they are responsible for their continued bad actions and the subsequent consequences.

1989, Do we not have the same prerogative ? To tell you that you are mistaken. That you are taking the wrong path towards the betterment of human society ? We don't condemn you any eternal sentence. We just tell your of your errant ways. The only difference is that we have some evidence to indicate that we are correct.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Yes, you have the prerogative to tell me I am wrong.

2

Jan 25, 2023, 11:53 AM

But, I know what I believe, I know why I believe it, and I know what I have experienced as a result of the truth. I know that I am better as a result of what I believe. Likewise, I have the right (prerogative) to not believe you. I am prepared for my beliefs and the resulting consequences. I know that this world will hate me. It hates Jesus Christ and His message. (John 15:18-25)

Just be sure that if you are correct, you are prepared for the consequences.

swimmer,

No one is talking about destroying Tony Dungy. They are suggesting that his reactionary points of view might not represent the NFL very well - and that perhaps they should part ways with him.

Being a public broadcaster relies, in large part, on remaining popular with the audience. Dungy's ill-considered ramblings are becoming increasingly unpopular with a growing part of that audience. He is not unpopular because he is a christian. He is becoming unpopular for his political and social views.

It’s quite simple really, the government doesn’t marry anyone. You are spot on that there should be equal protection under the law and rights such as healthcare benefits, life insurance, etc should be extended to all. For those that marriage is important, it’s also pretty clear what that definition is and who is ordained to perform that sacrament. By the way it’s not the county clerk from the left or right. If marriage is important and man and woman should go to church and be married in Gods eyes, others that it isn’t important too should go to the courthouse and have your union. Simple solution.

Separation of church and state also means the state cannot prevent anyone from practicing their religion. This situation has nothing to do with Church and State. This is about a publicly owned company minimizing their exposure when a public facing employee expresses an unpopular opinion. They have every right afforded to them by the law to fire or retain him.

Re: Separation of church and state is not....

Bret,

The Constitution is only four pages long. In order to continue to discern what the Founders intended in this brief document, scholars often research other writings by the Founders. Several of them indicate in their other writings of the time, that they indeed did intend to create separate spheres of influence for church & state. Please remember that many of their families came here because that wall had been violated in England - to deleterious affect.

The actual term "a wall of separation between church and state" was written by Thomas Jefferson in a letter to the Danbury Baptist Association. BTW, the Baptist minister who responded to this letter affirmed that his position on the matter coincided with Jefferson's

The fact is that most of the attendees to the Constitutional Convention were christians, but they deliberately left religion out of the Constitution. The young America was a nation of christians who purposely avoided creating a christian nation. They were committed to the idea that EVERYONE has the right to their own beliefs without ANY government interference or support.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Separation of church and state is not....

Jan 25, 2023, 6:43 PM

I think you should research the practices of the founders.
Bible was text book on public schools. Prayer in Public schools. Church in the Rotunda every Sunday Congress was in session. All sessions of Congress and Supreme court opened by prayer.

Where is that wall you claim they observed.?

Re: Christianity is under attack in America.

Jan 25, 2023, 6:25 PM [ in reply to Re: Christianity is under attack in America. ]

That is what you want it to mean but it does not mean that at all. The same founders who supposedly separated religion and state, had prayer and the Bible as text in their public schools, opened all sessions of Congress with prayer, had church services in the rotunda every Sunday Congress was in session, and the list goes on.
An activist court misused Jeffersons letter to the Danbury Baptists to build a wall that was never intended. If you want to know what the founders meant in COTUS, look at their actions.
