Anyone have heat pump water heater?

As I previously mentioned, lil bro needs a new water heater. He talked to homeboy at Lowe's and among other options is a heat pump model that he recommended. I usually don't need much help on handyman around the house type of stuff but I haven't done anything with this type. It's pretty expensive (about $2,ooo vs. about $600 for standard electric model). Wondering if the juice is worth the squeeze.

we went with tankless, was expensive but if he has a family, worth it

Plumber friend of his likes the gas ones but not crazy about the electric ones. He doesn’t have gas at his house, but I would think the electric one would be fine as long as it’s sized correctly.
