A TON of GWOT Military Personnel have severe PTSD and Anxiety

I know many. In the last year, 3 of my fellow Marines that I have served with have taken their own lives. Many of them, unable to conform back to the society they leveraged everything to defend, committed errors left and right after transitioning from the military.
As far as we know, this Tyler guy has deployed to a combat zone at least once, and it's not hard to see something traumatic that lives with you/haunts you forever when doing so (ask me how I know). From Larry Williams' article, this guy may not even have a job, and he's receiving a ton of scrutiny, even from his own girlfriend.
I'm not saying anything he did Monday night was right, and just because you served, doesn't give you a reason to be an a$$hole the rest of your life. But, like any other mental illnesses, sometimes this isn't something that's easily controlled. Would you retaliate against a person with dementia because they insisted you won't let them see their [dead] spouse? Would you yell at a person with downs, tourettes, or Asperger's because they kept interrupting a speaker? I've worked with veterans that can't keep relationships, jobs, or themselves clean because of what haunts them from their time while standing in harms way for our nation.
What we do know is this guy served our country, and he's probably given more to our country than most fans listening to that show on Monday night.
What happens if he takes his own life in the coming days?
After he made a critical mistake, we have a coach that doubled down on him, a media group that won't let it go, and places like Tiger Town Graphics that are leveraging his error for their own gain on social media.
None of us know anything about this guy, but I can tell you this...
Our community has already failed him if no one besides Larry Williams has reached out and I'm the only one considering his position.

I have no issue with 2 grown men having a disagreement, in this case on the radio, and those 2 either working it out or dropping it and moving on. If it was in person, they could have shook hands or punched each other till they got it out of their systems, that’s 2 men being men and moving on.
The b. .s. that’s occurred after Monday night is uncalled for . The T-Shirt thing is absolutely garbage and I hope it hurts their business and no one is wearing that crap Saturday, but I’m sure some morans will.
Dabo is a grown man, no different than any other man and has every right to defend himself, after Monday night though the crap should have stopped.

Glad he’s got some brothers reaching out. I appreciated your points about PTSD and mental illness.
Dakota Meyer was here at Joint Base Pearl Harbor and I got to listen to him speak on being aggressive about removing the stigma from talking about mental health and being able to move forward and heal from PTSD. It’s hard to talk about but we have to be more direct about grappling with these issues and having the difficult conversations.
I liked the way he presented PTSD as a sickness and not a chronic disease. As something that you can heal from and move forward, and some people do. I also work with a 30 year Master Gunnery Sergeant that has been retired from active duty for over a decade, and still has to go to meetings at the VA twice a week to keep a lid on his PTSD. Then at the other end of the spectrum are the 22 veterans we lose every day that can’t see any other alternative.
I’m hoping Tyler can keep everything locked in. If not, I hope there are people close by that can help him get and keep a handle on everything.
It’s all fun and games to joke about stuff on the internet, but there is also a time to get serious.

I do not know how to reach him, but if you can, tell him that I am another Marine that has his six He was man enough to admit what he did, or rather how he did it, was a mistake. I am still disappointed that Dabo (whom I love) did not in some way acknowledge that he also may have crossed the line, especially after a day to think about it. I will support Dabo, but will not turn my back of a fellow Marine ..... correct them when they need it ....yes .... turn you back on them ...... never. Maybe that's just our culture!

See TTG's social media pages.
You aren't a pleasant person are you? One day you're going to need the people around you. Being "hard" and appearing "tough" is a facade for insecurity. So it's likely that when you, personally, will need someone, you're REALLY going to need them. I hope you see a bigger picture before that time comes so you aren't completely alone and have no one to turn to.

Believe it or not, college football wasn't the be-all and end-all of Clemson University in the 1980s. It was something you listened to on the radio on Saturday while you were out working in the yard.
Those were better times.

Certainly, but people didn't obsess over football back in the 1980s the way they do now. At least Clemson fans didn't. It was a fun diversion on Saturday and if they won they won, and if they lost they lost.
The kind of crazed superfan nonsense we see today comes from two sources: (1) the Internet, which allows people to talk about a particular subject non-stop with fellow obsessives, and (2) Clemson admitting lots of out-of-state students from Yankee hellholes where MUH SPORTSBALL superfan culture has been around a lot longer.

Yes, of course, football was huge in Clemson in the 1980s! We were at every home game and many groups chartered buses and traveled to every away game. The stadium was usually full and LOUD!

playoff run. This guy even admitted himself he went way to far in Larry Williams article. No coach and or any amount of success would satisfy these incels. If we won 7 out of 8 national titles, these Incels would still be whining about the one year we didn’t win it. I wish the websites covering Clemson would stop appealing to incel culture. The incel trolls are an extremely small portion of the fan base. Appealing to incel culture has even negatively impacted Tigernet. It used to be during football season if you posted something in the morning in the afternoon you would have to go through 10 pages worth of posts to get to something posted in the morning. Now you have posts showing up on the first page of posts two to three days after it was posted. A majority of the population doesn’t care for incel culture, it doesn’t matter how many times they post or spend time on the internet, people just don’t like incels.

Did Tyler start the fight? Or did Dabo when he called out the fanbase weeks prior trying to insinuate any unflattering opinion of his program was done by a fringe lunatic portion of the fanbase that needed to be culled? Serving your country doesn’t give you a free pass to make an idiot of yourself.
And I want to be clear, most of what he said was legitimate criticism. But to call in on the radio challenge a man you don’t know and have never met about his pride/arrogance and quote scripture to do it is just wrong - he deserves every bit of crap he gets.
Also, I don’t think it was right to state upfront that he was in the military like it’s some magical pass.
That all being said, I think Dabo should have taken a deep breath and shown the guy some grace. I hope in the fullness of time, Dabo reaches out to the guy and they hug it out.

"Serving your country doesn’t give you a free pass to make an idiot of yourself."
Merely being an American, whether you served or not, gives a free pass to make an idiot of yourself. People have every right to call in to sports radio shows and say stupid things, and when they hang up, that should be the end of it. Nobody should be permanently "branded" over a freaking phone call discussing sports.
If the guy had threatened to kill Dabo or said something slanderous, then things would be different. But that didn't happen. All he did was state opinions that Dabo didn't like, and there's nothing wrong with that. That's supposed to be part of the fun of sports.

Under no circumstance, should Dabo Swinney, or any football coach, call a fan an “idiot” simply because they disagree with one another. This has harmed Dabo’s reputation, not as a football coach but as a human being, and a “Christian”

I can't think of the name, but there is a ranch that deals with only wild Mustangs that is helping a lot of X military men & women that were as close to suicide without actually pulling the trigger.
I don't think the place that I mentioned is the one that I'm linking, but it's one pretty close to the one that I saw in a 60 minute special on TV. The therapy for the horses and the X soldiers seemed to be working for the wild mustangs and the men and women that had severe cases of PTSD.
I'm telling about this bc I know first hand that the trust between a person and a horse, there is nothing much stronger than that bond, it's a gift that keeps giving....

Some good points you have made.
In addition, it’s important for people to realize one does not have to serve in the military to have PTSD.
There are quite a few functioning and non functioning folks with PTSD.
This is not limited to veterans.

I feel the pain. I see the pain. I am finishing my masters degree (at 52) on the way to a doctor of psychology (PsyD: able to write scripts for therapy) and my plan is to moonlight at the VA helping treat PTSD, and Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) in vets. My calling is to specialize in addiction medicine and helping our veterans overcome this terrible affliction. The amount of vets with TBI who served in Afghanistan is off the charts. TBI is almost always accompanied with PTSD.
Thank you for shining a light on this issue. We are losing far too many of our people to these diseases. I just want to help one person; then on to the next.

My dad served in the Korean War and suffered severe PTSD for the rest of his life. I sympathize with anyone who has or is suffering from it.
