QB…Just the facts

Completion %….#105 in the nation QBR….#95 in the nation Last weeks completion %….48% At what point is it unfair to the rest of the team (who each has to play for their spot) to not let another guy who was rated the #5 dual threat QB in the country not take some meaningful snaps just to see if he can’t be the worst in the ACC.

I understand what you’re saying, but we have one receiver who can actually catch the ball, no slot receiver, no Tight End threat, no real receiving running back. OLine is shaky, DJ just doesn’t have much help.

DJ’s fault. I mean that just doesn’t make sense. Isn’t a QB meant to uplift a team?

It’s the opposite people are solely trying to blame dj. DJ has had his fair share of bad throws and bad decisions. But how many drops has his receivers had? How bad has his oline played outside of the bc game. Some play calls hasn’t helped him out. The whole offensive side of the ball has struggled. But on a game day, if you scroll down the board all you see is DJ’s name and how much he sucks.

FACT: We have credible TE threats: Davis Allen and Brandon Galloway. FACT
FACT: The O LINE was good enough to yield ZERO sacks last game, and even DJ said he had LOTS of time in the pocket.

I agree that DJ hasn't had much help in the first four games, but, last night, the o-line looked better, the running backs looked better, and DJ made a few good throws and runs. But, we still only scored one touchdown. Still not good on third down. Something needs to change. Maybe something will happen during the bye week to improve things. Otherwise, we are in for more nail items like last night

He really seems to throw more accurately on the move. Sitting stone-legged in the pocket is not helping him and he is not getting the ball out quickly enough. Combined that with poor option reads and it is really a mess. I think he does not have the locker room either.

As I think back on last nights game- I can think of twice as many balls that should’ve been caught than the throws that were just off. I am also of the opinion that DJ has yet to throw an INT that was his fault! Is he TL- No! He’s still good and there are 10 other dudes out there... we have to resist throwing all the blame (or credit) on one guy!

You are correct. DJ reminds me of Cam Newton in the NFL. Rifle arm, makes some “wow” throws. However, poor mechanics, misses on far too many gimme throws, poor accuracy. Nearly everyone sitting near me in the stadium last night were begging for a QB change, even if just for a series.

Taisun threw a bad interception vs SC State. He is coining off an injury that was supposed to take him out for the entire season. The only way to get DJ better is to let him play and let him learn from mistakes and the team understand he’s their leader.
The WRs have to get open and make catches. The OL has to block. The RBs have to do their jobs. It’s a team sport.
Truth is as bad as DJ has looked, we should be 4-1.

I’m not saying Taisun will play great. I’m just saying playing worse would be rather hard based on the numbers. There are also leaders who let others play and still maintain their leadership status…Rencher.

We could be 5-0 as easily as we could be 1-4. Fact of the matter is this offense has a ways to go overall. It starts with coach TE. He did call a better game against BC but still really called some bonehead offensive plays. Next is DJ. DJ is very uncomfortable in the pocket and lacks confidence in himself. It’s very obvious. His lack of confidence as the “leader” of the offense is spreading through the rest of the offense. I believe his receivers really don’t trust that he can get the ball to them. (Receivers are not really helping DJ either but I believe their frustration of not getting catchable balls is setting in). You can tell by the way they carry themselves on the field. They are looking for the flag more than the ball. I was happy the o-line looked a little better and the backs came to play. (At this point why is J-Lay on the field). Defensively the young guys up front have to learn to get pressure in the middle. That’s really hurting the defense without Davis and Breese. Jones isn’t playing well at corner. Hey BT looked good lol. If the offense can find themselves this team will look much better(obviously). Sometimes it takes a coach to bench the starter for a series or two so that guy knows he can be replaced. Not sure babying DJ is doing him any favors imo. Eventually the offense will get better but not sure the progress a whole lot during the season. I sure would like to see Ajou on the field a little more.

But the receiver play has been the worst its been in the Dabo era. They have no fight in them and are struggling to get open. There were a lot of catchable balls Saturday night that the receivers let the DB win.

Now that you mention it, I don't recall seeing Ajou at all Sat PM. I didn't see him on the Unavailable list. Did I miss him? I think he or Ngata and a few 50/50 balls may be our best shot at some passing yards. But 50/50 balls are touch passes - I think we all know that isn't DJ's strength.
Now, as for Taisun or any other QB - I've said this from the beginning. I wonder if anyone behind DJU is really ready. Taisun wasn't due back til Nov but was cleared the week of the UGA game. But how 'clear' is he? I think DJU hesitancy to run early in the season was due to coaches telling him from April to August, you DO NOT RUN the ball. The next guy behind you is a walk-on or a baseball player. But I wonder if the hesitation to sub a QB to see if we get a spark is due to the health and playbook knowledge (or lack of both) on the guys behind DJU. And this isn't something the coaches will or should broadcast. "Hey Syracuse - you know how you like to take out our QB every year. Well this is your year. 'Cause we aint got nobody backing up our guy this year!" Just like DW4 knee or Boulware's robo-shoulder - you keep that stuff under wraps until you don't have to keep secret any more.

Does Klubnik still come to Clemson?
Considering the fact that the coaches won't let another QB take snaps over DJ, will Klubnik feel he can't get a "fair" chance at starting over DJ.

There is no doubt you can not be a better offense than the QB takes you there DJ is handcuffing the offense at this time It seems to be a mental thing as he has the physical tools

The receivers usually never get the ball on time when they need it There is no rhythm as was with previous QBs If you think about it DJ is making less happen from his position than any other ACC QB Every QB we have played had outplayed DJ It is all mental He may be able to conquer this mental thing and maybe he never will
