A "pee-can" is what you have under your bed when it's too cold to walk to the bathroom!
A "pe-con" is the nut you eat!
LOL! J/K - say it how you feel!

The old timers called them slop jars. The refined old timers called them chamber pots. Either way it kept them from having to go all the way to the outhouse in the middle of the night. The weird thing is some of those fancy chamber pots are being sold at auction. Bringing big money from people with enough money to buy a pot to p__s in.

My parents and their parents grew up in South GA. I've heard it pronounced so many different ways I have no idea which is right. In fact, I don't even know which way I say it. I could sue it in three straight sentences and say it 3 different ways.
Pee Can Pee Con Puh Con Puh Can (the least likely way I would say it, but I have heard it pronounced that way.)

I guess I'm the only person that pronounces the nut as Pee-kin I could have sworn that others in Laurens County pronounced that way.

I wish I remember the source but I once saw some educated, trustworthy source explain that technically both were wrong. He explained that people using CAN were correct on that syllable but put too much emphasis on the first syllable....making it more PEE-CAN. Which is incorrect. So the correct pronunciation is a short pe then CAN. So almost puh-CAN.
But I'm a PEE-CAN guy.

https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/pecanDefinition of PECAN The meaning of PECAN is a large hickory (Carya illinoinensis synonym C. illinoensis) that has roughish bark and hard but brittle wood and is widely grown in the warmer parts of the U.S. and in Mexico for its edible nut. For me, it's "pee-can" for the nut, and "pee-con" when you make something with it (ice cream, pies, etc.). Don't have a real good reason for that.

Doesn’t matter what Webster or some supposedly educated, trustworthy source says. The folks that have trees on their land call them pee-cans so that’s good enough for me. We had 6 trees in our yard growing up and that’s what we called them.

A pee can is what my great uncle Raymond kept by his bed so he and Aunt May wouldn't have to go to the outhouse at night when it was cold or raining outside. But they called that can a 'slopjar,' so as not to confuse the peecans which Aunt May used to bake her delicious peecan pies.
I don't remember calling a pecan, peecan. I think it's always been a pecon to me even though, I, my mama and daddy were just about as country as Aunt May and Uncle Raymond, may all four of them RIP. Me too pretty soon.
