Not to be a Hater, but is anyone else shocked (Byron Maxwell

Is anyone else shocked that a team is willing to pay this much for Byron Maxwell? I mean he is getting an elite NFL Salary here.
I do think he is very good, but when you are playing opposite Richard Sherman, that could potentially make you look better than you are.
I guess it's hard to rate a Corner without seeing tons of video footage, but he has never really "wowed" me in games I've watched.
I certainly wish him the best, but $10 million a year is a shock to me.

Yeah I mean several NFL people have deemed it as free agency overspending. But hopefully he lives up to the contract and cements himself as a elite NFL corner. And hey if not he's gonna have heavy pockets regardless. But best of luck to him.

The biggest raise will or should be in our recruiting after the Maxwell contract, hopefully we get a kick back from it anyway.

I'd think playing opposite Sherman would make you look worse

Other teams would've been throwing his way since Sherman was on the other side of the field. You don't really hear a ton about Maxwell, but I think teams like somebody like him who's a little bigger than your average corner.

safeties might make you look a little better. But his play backs up this money, CBs are hard to come by and are very expensive. He's definitely the best FA Cb and the Eagles have a pretty big need at the position.

In my opinion, this is the correct answer. Seattle's secondary doesn't play man, they play sides...meaning if the Seahawks are playing against the Packers, Sherman isn't assigned to Cobb or Nelson, he's got the left. In the first game, the Packers were criticized because they put their 3rd receiver on Sherman's side and didn't throw at him a single time in the game.
Not all teams employed such extreme strategies, but this style of defense meant that for the most part, Maxwell was covering the opponent's best receiver. Of course he also had two of the best safeties in the league backing him up, but he still did very well this past season.
He did get more than I expected, but not an egregious amount more. I really hope he's able to play up to that level...will certainly be rooting for him.

True, but then there's the other 2 guys who are top 5 at their position who have your back. Not saying he doesn't deserve it, but always interesting to see how other factors affect paydays.

Very surprised. He's a Tiger but he's not worth that. Free agency is always like this. Doubt he completes the contract.

Like any other position in any other sport, it's gonna come down to does his skill set match their schemes. He was perfect in Seattle. Not sure if the Eagles employ the same scheme, but if they do then he will be very good there also. He was a monster here, he just isn't get healthy til senior year. 4* CB who as deemed very physical. I would say he panned out......eventually.

Thing is the ball doesn't get thrown to Sherman's side that

much. So Maxwell was locking it down when a majority teams wouldn't test Sherman. That's why he is that good, because the ball was being thrown more to receivers he was covering, and he played great.

With similar production, the more versatile Chris Harris didn't get close to that much...but then again, it's known that he took a heavy hometown discount and wanted to stay in Denver for life so that was probably a factor. So this isn't that outrageous I guess.
Also, I think playing with Earl Thomas and Kam Chancellor over top (in addition to that nickel they have) would be more likely to obscure Maxwell's production than playing with Sherman. We're talking about 3 guys other than Sherman who are top 2-3 at their position covering the same secondary.
Happy for him for sure, and I guess if the Eagles are willing to pony up that kind of cash than that's pretty kewl.
