If the rumors are true about Texas and Oklahoma reaching

out to the SEC about membership, what do you think the long term implications will be? The SEC is already the Big Bully on the block, this will just cement their position and claim of being the only "Super-Conference".
With there also being serious talk about the Playoffs expanding to at least 12 teams, this might be a great time for Clemson to reconsider our own position. Being in the ACC for sure gave us an easier route to the 4 team playoff than being in the SEC would. However, at 12 teams, I would give us a great chance to be there most years even after going through a "tough" SEC schedule.
Another aspect of this would be, what happens to the remaining teams in the Big 12 once the Big Two have jumped ship? I can see those teams being probably about equally split between the Pac 12 and the Big 10. That means that all those conferences, AND the SEC, would then have more members than, you guessed it, the lowly ACC.
Part of the Texas / Oklahoma discussion has also been that the SEC might boot out a couple of football nonperforming members like Vanderbilt and Kentucky. Were that to happen, it would still give a route into the SEC for Clemson and perhaps Florida State. In a lot of ways, with everything that is happening, this would make sense for Clemson. Otherwise, we AND the ACC may be left in the lurch, AGAIN, as other conferences expand and thrive.

SEC supposedly has a "gentlemen's agreement" that a school can block another school from the same state from joining. USUCK will probably blackball us.

to play Hardball. I sincerely doubt that the SEC would let USuK keep us out, and fore shore they will not let Texas A&M cost them a chance at adding Texas. Heyall, if the SEC is serious about booting out nonperforming football members, USuK better watch out for their own house.
Could you imagine the mass suicides if the SEC invited us to join, and booted the Coots out at the same time? There wouldn't be anybody left in Cootlumbia.

It takes more than one school to blackball admission of another school into the SEC. The gentleman's agreement is between UGA, Florida, and South Carolina to blackball GT, FSU, and Clemson if an offer to join was ever extended to one or more of these schools.

If that "gentelmens agreement is true" then there is no way that Texas AM would allow Texas to enter the SEC.
I do not believe the rule exists, but I also do not believe that the FLA, UGA, SC, TN, or Vandy would vote to admit Clemson.

The A&M AD already said as much. There was a sour departure when A&M left the BigXIi

They'd need to drop their conference name for starters.

I do miss the old days, when money wasn’t the only thing that mattered.
Just because you can, doesn’t mean you should. I have never had and never will have any respect for greed.

Oh……and UT are a bunch of entitled, elitist snobs. The only invite they’d get from me, would be an invite to keep their distance.

Texas pretty much runs the Big XII...

which is why A&M, Colorado, and Nebraska all left.
Not sure why they'd leave their catbird seat in the Big XII for more of a subordinate role in the SEC.

Everything changes in time. Who's to say the past 3 or 4 years of ACC football will be the same 5 years from now? I can see a scenario where teams like Miami, FSU, UNC, and even Ga Tech will become top 25 again. Miami and GT have advantages in the NIL era that will once again attract top talent. UNC is on the rise, and you know that FSU will be back because they are committed to it. And what happens if Notre Dame decides to Join? Then all of a sudden the ACC becomes one of the big boy conferences. Then we will be glad we didn't jump ship.

I dont see the SEC kicking anybody out...

besides, Vandy and UK are founding members and Kentucky has outperformed the bottom half of the conference the last 4-5 years.
Still it makes zero sense for Oklahoma to join the SEC in terms of on the field play. Yes they'll get more money but its the Oklahoma Sooners....they aren't hurting for anything and they get theirs in recruiting each year. They are top dog in the Big 12 and will see that dominance fade away by joining the SEC.
Also, what kind of deal are they going to have to give LSU, Texas A&M, Arkansas, Missouri to sway their votes? Recruiting in Texas as a SEC member is a differentiator for alot of kids and these schools lose a major advantage.

I have no idea of what the long term consequences will be in the SEC ,but hopefully both Texas and Oklahoma will get stronger/better and then those teams that are the perennial power house will just beat each other to death. As to the ACC. I am afraid Clemson is stuck between a rock and a hard place. The SEC does not want us so that leaves it up to the ACC to improve. The first thing that has to happen is the traditional power house teams( FSU, Miami, Pittsburg Louisville and Virginia Tech) have got to get stronger. And even if that happens expansion will most likely have to occur, but that depends on Notre Dame and to some point the new Commissioner. Either the Irish join as a full football playing member or the new Commissioner tells then not to miss the noon day stage on the way out of Tombstone( or Dodge City). Then this; Now I am hearing/reading about a possible break up of the Big 12 and the BIG 10 with the possibility of a Penn State joining the ACC if Notre Dame comes in. Then you could realign the 16 teams into a true North /South divisions. But all of this is still pure speculation until it happens.

I cannot see where the addition of Texas and Oklahoma to the SEC would help anyone in the SEC East. Moving Alabama and Auburn to the East would put Ga. and Fla. in the position of trying to get out of third place. It would guarantee the Coots an automatic 5 losses each year.
