How is the parking/tailgating situation up there? I'm seriously considering going up there for the game in October and I was just wondering about the logisitics. Thanks.

When I went traffic was non existent for the most part and I parked on the street close to the stadium. Not much tailgating either. Don't know how it'd be on a Thursday either.

I went the year Gaines Adams blocked the field goal and we came back to win. We parked across the street at the fair grounds. There was plenty of Clemson tailgating going on where we were at. Stadium is kinda small, but that is to be expected. They have the demon deacon riding out on to the field on a harley right before Wake comes out. That was kinda cool. I would say it's worth the trip up.

Yeah I remember it being cold as well. We left the day before w/o checking the weather. Good thing I brought a hoodie. Even with that, it was still kinda miserable. At least until the blocked kick and things turned around for us.

I got a speeding ticket on the way up there (speed trap a few miles into NC on 85 in the median just before some trees, heads up). Despite getting to the stadium about 40 minutes before the game, we missed the entire first quarter because they had about 4 windows open for the thousands of people picking up their tickets at Will Call. When we got to our seats we were about 5 rows from the top, it was cold, it was rainy, and we were surrounded by Wake fans. Then we had to put up with their incredibly annoying piped in crowd noise during Clemson's plays.
It was all worth it for that blocked kick.

offense and then BANG Gaines saves the day and we went wild!! Parking was pretty good, they don't have the 80,000 that we have. Parked across from the stadium, tailgated and walked about 5 minutes to the stadium.

Parked in the same lot next to the fairgrounds. As I recall it was just about all orange. Pretty cold game and my son was regretting wearing flip flops.

Can't see staying the weekend either-not a whole lot here. Try to get here a couple hours early, there will be plenty of Tiger tailgating around the coliseum which is across the the street from a small but very impressive stadium on Deacon Blvd. People here are always amazed at how we travel and make a lot of noise although being Thurs night game will cut that back some. And I don't have to mention what a tough out WF usually is-normally a good game. This is a home game for my family so we circle it early.

...just across the street from the stadium. All asphalt, but not a bad spot. Since they aren't used to lots of folks tailgating, port-a-potties can be an issue, though.
Not real sure what you'd do with a whole weekend up there.

I live in Winston Salem. I'm going too. I always buy tickets from folks selling out front and have always gotten great seats at a discounted price. Thursday night and on TV a lot of the Wake fans will set at home and watch. They sell the corporate bought tickets out front. Football here is not even close to many of the other schools. Only 3500 students and an older surrounding population. It is a nice stadium and they have come leaps and bounds with the facilities. Not much going on here for a weekend stay unless you are just checking out Old Salem and Pilot Mountain. A bunch of Clemson fans here are going as a group I can't wait. I hope we score 80 on the Deacons. Go Tigers!

retiring to Mt. Pleasant. Wake has made major improvements to Groves Stadium in recent years. Nice place to see a game. You will see more spirit at a Furman game. Plenty of parking and tickets are always available outside the stadium at below face value. The campus is beautiful in the fall. Many Wake supporters have an elitist attitude. Not many of the alumni are from W-S or North Carolina for that matter. Sadly W-S lacks any significant growth and the old guard industry and companies are long gone RJR McClean Trucking Western-Electric Wachovia Bank Piedmont Airlines Hanes Knit Ware
But hey, they still have Krispy-Kreme doughnuts !

It's a good trip - typically because it's close, you can get tickets, and the place is 30%-50% Clemson, depending on the year.
WF typically has decent fans (if you stay off the internet) and despite what you may think - we pretty much always win. Even if it's scary/ugly.
Find the parking lot that is completely orange - it's usually huge and easy to find - and have a good time.
Then go home.

It's not a good road trip imo. If Clemson wins I guess you can't go wrong though.
