Realistic expectations

Oct 15, 2023, 4:22 PM

I keep reading that we have to be realistic that we can’t make the playoffs every year. So, I ask, what are your realistic expectations for Clemson Football each year?

12-0. With the salaries we are paying, expect nothing less.

i expect....

- to watch every game - or listen if I'm doin something else.
- to faithfully root for the Tigers with expectations of a win...every time.
- to not freak the f' out if we 'stumble'.
- to expect that challenges are a part of my excitement.
- to appreciate that if you won em all - it really wouldn't be a game.
- to be thankful that I am a Clemson Fan regardless of the outcome.
- to read Tigernet each day and expect a bunch of troll, weak, uneducated, hyper-sensitive, downer, etc. posts.

prob missing something.

I suspect a lot of us had these expectations until Dabo spoiled us by so many 10 win seasons and more ACC championships than a lot of tnetters can count oh yeah and a couple of national championships. Now we have a vocal minority questioning the best coach in Clemson history and constantly reminding us that they know how to run a program better than the professionals. As a side note we all can and do have our own opinions and I enjoy reading them from time to time when I am so inclined.

And TNet won't disappoint you***

THIS

If we go through a season struggling to beat the teams we should and then lose to every team that we should. THAT is the problem with this year. If we lose to ND UNC AND SCAR this will be the absolute worst season I've ever seen. Please God don't let us lose to all of the above.

Have the talent to win each game.
Have the confidence to win each game.
Expect to win each game.
Know that we will lose once in a while.

That we could either be a 6 loss team or best case scenario we only lose one more. We’re somewhere between those two options.
Either way we’re middle of the pack offensively and barely top 40 defensively when you look at stats relative to the teams we have played. (College football nerds.com)

Honestly I am not sure what my expectations are with this new NIL free agency era of CFB that will only get worse.

I guess my reluctant expectations are for our Tigers to continue to slide into mediocrity along on many other have nots that cannot compete with the money flying around. Probably about 5-10 years out from not watching CFB anymore. The game has already changed so much and not for the better.

The overall game is not near as good as it was 5 to 10 years ago.

The fact that you think at all is newsworthy...

oh, it's much worse than that....

Oct 16, 2023, 12:03 PM

take that, 12 top guys at CNN, and a bunch of made-up stuff about UFO's and men needing tampons,

and you can hold a Congressional Hearing these days, with like 45% of the daytime audience, to boot.

It must be my winning personality...

I know it's easy to blame money for our woes

Oct 16, 2023, 9:49 AM [ in reply to Re: Realistic expectations ]

but money has little to nothing to do with what we are seeing now from our Tiger football team.

To be competitive

Oct 15, 2023, 10:42 PM

To compete with everyone we play, even if we can't win them all, but we must win against some really good programs regardless. To look back on the season and see quality wins, not just wins over Wake and Furman. To play a great opponent in a bowl game and feel real confident we will win.

Re: Realistic expectations

That is such a difficult question when you really think about it.

Based on what I read on Tigernet every single week is that the expectation (realistic or not) is to be a national contender every single year. When Clemson is not that we are all obviously disappointed. It has been that way since the first championship with Danny Ford..that set the bar.

The question is for a smaller school like Clemson is that realistic? I still say yes it is. The school and the fans spend millions of dollars to that end because that is the expectation. Not to win the National Title every year, but to be a serious contender for it regardless of the outcome. When that ends just one game in it is bound to have Clemson fans be cranky all season.

Sometimes I actually envy schools like Vanderbilt in that they suck so much and so often that a once-a-year upset win or any win for that matter is enough to make their fans have a joyous celebration. They don't have to be disappointed by not achieving to the level that we expect Clemson to do so they can just relax and enjoy...

To be on the same competitive level, be in the same conversation year after year as Alabama, Georgia and Ohio State are. They are always within reach of the brass ring even if they don’t win it all on a given year. Right now Clemson isn’t close. Seemed like it for a little while but the past 3 years have told quite a different story. 👍🏿🐅

When the Playoffs go to TWELVE teams starting next year, I

1

Oct 16, 2023, 1:13 PM

certainly DO expect us to make it just about every year.

BUTT, if you think the ESPN Agenda about trying to get TWO SEC teams into a FOUR team playoff is nauseating every year, wait until you hear them try to get FIVE SEC teams or more into a TWELVE team playoff!

:)
