Cannot say Brownell is a great bball coach

but can say he's Clemson's greatest bball coach.
Now, some naysayers will say that's not saying much but I say hey, if they make the Final Four then let it be said that noone can say Brownell is not Clemson's greatest bball coach.
See what Im saying?

If CBB were at Marquette, a place with a great basketball history where it’s easy to recruit, would CBB have a better record than Shaka?

Definitely. Clemson basketball has never attracted the recruits because it’s a football school. What Brownell has done is amazing. Even if we lose today that play he called for PJ Hall was fantastic. I think this could propel us to be more desirable to recruits. Just saying and hoping.

If you are talking about the inbounds dunk with about a minute to go, that was the 3rd time Clemson had run that play successfully. In the postgame show, Charles Barkley basically said the Arizona players and coaches were stupid for letting that happen.

I'd say "define great". He's been around a long time which would typically result in more wins. We have been this far once before. Was that coach "great"? Now, if he wins it all this year...?

I don't really know enough to say what makes a great coach, but

what I saw against Arizona was that he drew up plays on the fly that were ridiculously successful. It made Arizona look lost because he put our guys where their guys weren't. It was impressive.
Go Tigers!

I agree that Brownell's accomplishments to date do not qualify him for "greatness." That being said, he is a great teacher of fundamentals, and he develops players well. If you can remember back 3 years ago, Chase Hunter was very raw, and it was almost impossible to see that he would develop into an effective point guard. Look at the progression of Amir Simms, P.J. Hall, RJ Godfrey to date, Hunter Tyson, and there had been many others who have improved dramatically under tutelage of him and his staff. You can criticize him for not being a great recruiter, but Clemson's poor history, and until recent times poor facilities have worked against him. Also, there have been times, such as this year's ACC Tournament when you can question if he is a great motivator. The reality on that may be that the ACC Tournament is not that important any more. The only reason for its existence now is to make more money. It does not have great effect on making the Big Dance, and it is no longer unique like it was many years ago. Like the ACC itself, it may be time for it to go away.

We also can't say that you're a great Clemson fan. Let's go drop the narrative and let's enjoy what's going on. Some people just cannot be happy!

Quit moving the goalposts already. If they win tonight you’ll say “now if Brownell wins a natty he might be a great coach.”

Agreed. While this season is an outlier of success, the majority of Brownell's term has been average or below average when judging him at the national level
I do believe that he is the best bball coach Clemson has ever had but if you dig deeper, the bar for that was set very low to begin with.
Do I think after this season he deserves another year? Yes. Do I think at this point he deserves a long term extension, No
