Gotta think that might have dinged recruiting a bit over the past year or so.

Great decision and congratulations to all! Looking forward to an outside Title IX review group looking at our volleyball facilities and outdoor track. Maybe just maybe we will have exceptional facilities for all our teams. Think about top ten volleyball played at Clemson! Tune in tonight for NCAA national semifinals!

Certainly not under the leadership of the currently coaching staff.
That said, I do agree that it's long past time to level Jervey, which was built in 1973 and renovated in 1995, and build a new facility.

I agree on all accounts. But I doubt they realized up front how much slack they were going to get over the whole mess.
As for the construction, no reason Clemson shouldn't have top notch facilities for all sports. Was so proud of the article Ridgeland posted yesterday concerning our golf walker course being top public course. And yes, no reason Clemson can't be a top 10 vball team. If the current staff isn't capable, get one that is.

To the volleyball situation. The short of it is, the current coaching staff can’t get it done. Admin knows it. It will take a bit to get corrected. We’ve lost a couple program-changing players due to it recently. Crying shame, bc Clemson can do better, and shouldn’t be hamstrung by such.

Translation: Cost of attending football games to rise again in the name of equity for non-revenue sports.
Not referring to Track and Field.

Someone at the university got called a razzist and got skewered.
I have a great new idea, in order to teach young people about being responsible knowledgeable adults, have all sports team understand that if their sport isn’t financially self sustainable, then the participants will be responsible for making up any losses. Quit sucking on Football’s ### and trying to obtain a free ride on a meaningless sport

Track and field is not a meaningless sport. You don't watch the Olympics for football. Oh yeah, that's not an Olympic sport. But yet, you have football players who want to run for the chance to compete at the Olympics. It's only meaningless you always got beat in a race and was picked last for every game you tried to play. You can teach a track runner how to run a post, do a slant, throw or catch a football. you can teach him/her how to tackle or play defense. How many football players can run a sub 4 minute mile, run hurdles, or pole vault. How many can high jump 7+ feet or long jump 26-27 feet. Watch your non athletic mouth before you open it.

Calling people names is immature. I think I hurt your feelings because I made a point that was correct, about it being a leech to football, and you can only vent your anger by assuming I can’t run in a circle or play in a sand pit.
I never said they weren’t great athletes, I just said no one wants to spend money to watch it, basically at any level outside the Olympics.
Now if you can quit throwing a tantrum and admit I’m right, you can go back to running with your neighborhood lady’s club and get ready to enjoy some football this fall.

Should be put on notice that they need to begin working with the AD on a plan moving forward where their respective programs must be self sufficient after a reasonable period of time. If the alums don’t/can’t step up and partner w/ the AD, then their fate will be sealed!
The AD should have been doing this a looong time ago. Unfortunately, they are bureaucrats and are not as smart as we would think they should be given the salaries that they are receiving

Which Women's Sport?
Apr 22, 2021, 6:02 PM
|
|
Beach Volleyball has to be a consideration. Fairly cheap to add and works well by the lake.
Lacrosse or Field Hockey have gained a lot of momentum - could see these being likely team sports to be added. Hope we eventually get men's lacrosse, so having a women's team first would lead to that.
Equestrian? Ehhh.... The Lady ##### on Ponies can have that one
Gymnastics would be great, but would probably present a facility issue unless Littlejohn or a new Volleyball-Gymnastics combo facility were options
Bowling - I mean, maybe? We need a new facility if we went for that, but we probably need new lanes in Clemson anyway for student rec
Fencing - Not my favorite option, but I guess maybe theres a smaller field there?
Ice Hockey - would be great, but not going to happen
Water Polo or Swimming and Diving - We desperately need an olympic size pool on Clemson's campus. It's a shame we don't have one. But until that happens, these two aren't options.
My guess in terms of likelihood? 1) Lacrosse 2) Field Hockey 3) Beach Volleyball 4) Gymnastics 5) Biting the bullet and building an Olympic pool for Swimming and Diving/Water Polo

For the record...
Apr 22, 2021, 6:20 PM
|
|
ACC has 8 Women's Lacrosse Teams ACC has 7 Women's Field Hockey Teams ACC does not compete in Beach Volleyball, but Florida State has been National Runner-Up Twice ACC has 4 Fencing Teams ACC Has 12 Swimming and Diving Teams ACC does not compete in Gymnastics, but has 3 teams that are in a league with some other schools. The ACC has previously tried to form gymnastics prior to Maryland leaving for the B1G. It takes 4 schools to form ACC league.

Please let it be Women’s Lacrosse. Clemson would have top notch coaches and players ready to come to play immediately and start a program. Pitt starts next season. It is the fastest growing sport in the southeast for high school girls.

One of the fastest growing women's sports is wrestling. Presbyterian and Limestone have started programs in the state already. If we can start with that then maybe we can build from there back to men's wrestling as well.

With the stadium projects. Would have looked REALLY bad to continue with football projects after shutting down track and field (which is one of my favorite sports).
It’s a win-win....maybe coulda been handled differently, but glad for both T&F and football.
Go Tigers.

That is great news but isn't it amazing how our state and schools in the state seem to find extra money. The state just found an extra $1.7 billion, yes billion. The best 2 jobs in the world have got to be weather forecasters and state economists in South Carolina.

This is great news and the right decision was made. To the cynics posting here, no it doesn't make money but that is not the purpose of college sports. That (making money) is only the by-product for a very few select teams across the country and we are extremely fortunate to be one of those. Let's celebrate and support all our sports and all our athletes who work equally hard to be the best they can be. Go Tigers

Laugh now but this is the fastest growing women’s sport in the nation.
-States are getting sanctioned at the cyclic rate -Clemson would be smart by taking advantage of the positive press for forward thinking and innovation -Least expensive sport to field -Clemson Undergrad is growing and so should sports offerings -Should lead to an eventual reinstatement of the Men’s program -Wrestling community will rally and help fund -Show how sports programs can fund themselves over time lune the Ivy’s so that they can self sustain with alumni engagement. -LAX and Field Hockey athletes would have to be imported from Northeast where these athletes could be “home grown”. -No brainer

Honestly how many on this board would have known track was gone had they cancelled it with no announcement? Do you go to meets or intentionally seek out the meet results online? My guess is very few if any.

I’m one. I don’t get to see many meets anymore because of my schedule, but I’ve always kept up with the team. I’ve even travelled to the national indoor meet and the ACC’s before.
A track meet is where I first met Dabo. Didn’t know his name but recognized him as one of our new assistant coaches, at the time.
