Swinney loves that fans, pundits are "ticked" when Clemson loses

Clemson coach Dabo Swinney doesn't like the result from Saturday, but he doesn't hate the reaction from it.

Swinney talked about his Tigers being a main figure in the national and local conversation after the 10-3 loss to No. 5 Georgia.

"I love the fact that it's a national story," Swinney said on his call-in show Monday. "When we lose to a top-3 team or we lose to an unranked team -- it's a national story. I love that. I don't see anything wrong. I think that's a compliment to all the teams that we've had. We're in a place where there's high expectations. Fans expect us to win. National people expect us to win.

"When we don't, people are ticked. There's a lot of criticism. There's a lot of disappointment and I wouldn't have it any other way. It comes with the territory. I'm glad we're a relevant program that people like to talk about when we don't meet the expectations. But I can promise you this, ain't nobody have expectations like we have in this building. That's for dang sure."

Swinney says the team will respond and he's ready to be back in Death Valley for Saturday against SC State (5 p.m./ACCN).

"I love being a part of a program that has that mindset," Swinney said. "But I do think it's important to keep the right perspective and focus on what's real and that's what our guys will do. We'll have a great week. We'll get right back at it. This is going to be a stepping stone and not a stumbling block for us. I  don't have any doubt about that. This team is made of the right stuff.

"This was a heavyweight fight and we came up a little short and we'll be back. I'm super-pumped about getting back in the Valley this week."
