TigerNet Talk #58 - A Season on the Brink - 10/29/2008
It's mid year and lots of Tiger fans are slowly unpacking their Clemson
basketball gear, hoping for another great season by Coach Oliver Purnell and
the boys. It's doubtful many of the Tiger faithful expected to be talking too
much basketball before the end of bowl season.
Unfortunately, things haven't gone according to plan. Unless your plan
consisted of, losing three out of your first four ACC games, removing Head
Coach Tommy Bowden, releasing Rob Spence, and getting roughly four months to
debate the next head coaching choice. The dreams of going to a BCS bowl game
have quickly turned into hopes of ending the season with a winning record.
Clemson has yet to break through against their relatively new ACC opponent
Boston College. In each of the last three years, the Eagles have been the
stumbling block, that has kept the Tigers from an Atlantic Coast Conference
Championship game. At least that's not one of our worries this weekend, that is
if someone actually wants to win the Atlantic side of the conference.
In the three previous match ups, Boston College has been the more physical
team. The Eagles have played better football during the critical situations.
College football comes down to making plays and in this series Boston College
has dominated that department. In order for Clemson to turn things around this
week, Coach Swinney will have to pack a 55 gallon drum of...well, you know.

TigerNet Talk #57 - The Flop....All Paint - 10/24/2008
After going "All In" with a pair of tens, the flop comes up all paint. It looks
like there might still be an inside straight draw on the table. Clemson enjoys
a week off, and some much needed recuperation time, in preparation for their
toughest stretch of the season. Coach Dabo Swinney has made an early impression
on many of the Tiger faithful, and has re-energized this team for the final
games. If Clemson expects to keep it's hopes of reaching a bowl game alive, a
win at Boston College is necessary.
I expect most fans to stick by this team for the remainder of the year, but a
loss next week would leave Clemson with it's longest losing streak since the
1970 football season. That's not exactly what Tiger fans expected to be
discussing in late October.
This week, I weigh in on the head coaching position, and the benefits of the
recent change. It appears Tiger fans are more than willing to go "All In", but
bigger things are expected soon. Only time will tell if the turn card will
leave Clemson and Coach Dabo Swinney playing "On Tilt".
If Dabo turns out the be the answer, I wouldn't be upset. I just believe that
Clemson needs to make a statement nationally, and I am not 100% sold on THAT
statement being Coach Swinney. Have I been wrong before? Absolutely. I guess
will find out if Clemson takes a bad beat at on the river, but based on the
effort and enthusiasm against Georgia Tech, I bet there are side pots all over
TigerNet Nation.

TigerNet Talk #56 - "It's On Me" - 10/15/2008
You heard it here first, on TigerNet Talk #55 that it was a mere formality that
Tommy Bowden would be gone before the season was over, if not within the next
week. Tiger fans asked for a change and they received three. Willy Korn will
get the start at quarterback and Coach Bowden and Spence are gone.
With Clemson looking to rebound against a good Georgia Tech team, much has
changed since last Thursday evening. It was a whirlwind week as Coach Bowden
leaves the program on Monday, and Dabo Swinney is promoted to head coach.
Hopefully it will equate into a new mentality on the field. It sounds like the
days of multiple excuses are over. Coach Swinney said it best during his press
conference when he stated, "It's on me."

TigerNet Talk #55 - The Alarm is Souding - 10/10/2008
El Swann® releases an emergency edition of TigerNet Talk to address the
current state of Clemson football.
Clemson fans this is it, the end of the road. The Tommy Bowden era is done.
Whether it occurs within the next week or at the end of the season, is merely a
formality. It appears the team has lost all confidence in the staff, and the
staff seems disoriented.
The Clemson Tigers, preseason #9, fall to 3-3 overall and 1-3 against division
I opponents. It is reasonable to believe they are out of the ACC race no matter
what they do. There is no longer room for excuses. The locomotive that was capable of delivering us to greatness has been unequivocally derailed.

TigerNet Talk #54 - The State of the Conference - 10/06/2008
It's rare that a matchup this early in the ACC schedule can cause such worry for
Tiger fans. Unfortunately, having lost to Maryland, this game becomes a must win
after only playing two conference games. A loss in this game and the Tigers will
have too much ground to make up in order to get to Tampa. From this point
forward, Clemson will need to be flawless in their execution if they expect to
play for the conference title.
The Tigers face Wake Forest, known for years as an ACC bottom dweller, but
having emerged the past few seasons, they now adorn the bullseye once
frequently worn by our boys. Wake Forest comes in owning an ACC title from 2006
and finishing one game from a return trip just one season ago. Led by Riley
Skinner and Josh Adams, Wake Forest looks to continue their run at the ACC
title game.
Will the Tigers and Coach Tommy Bowden get the wheels on straight and pull
themselves out of their early season rut, or will this team continue to have
fans talking about, "What could have been?"
This week El Swann® previews the upcoming showdown in Winston-Salem and the
overall look of the conference.
