Overall Report Analysis-Grades and Comments:
Offense-Rushing
Interior running game- By far the best effort of the season. Clemson had a good game plan and exploited their advantage on the interior of the offensive line. The Tigers pulled linemen and used a man blocking scheme a little more often this week. James Davis, C.J. Spiller and Jamie Harper were very effective between the tackles.
Perimeter running game-State has excellent speed and the Tigers had a hard time getting to the edge.
Option game-N/A.
Draws- N/A.
Short yardage running game- This was a big improvement. I even saw some three-point stances on the goal line. This was a big key to the win.
Yards after contact- Excellent. Davis, Spiller and Harper all ran hard and broke tackles.
Offense-Passing
Pass protection-OK. I did not like giving up three sacks but Harper and Korn had time most of the day. They were not harassed too often.
Underneath passing game- This seems to be a major part of the game plan each week. I would have liked to have seen other parts of the offense because we know this will be featured every week.
Intermediate passing game- OK. The Tigers were able to hit a few intermediate routes. I guess I have a bad taste in my mouth because of the bad throw to Jacoby Ford for a pick and the interception straight to the linebacker.
Vertical passing game-The Tigers did not throw the ball downfield too often. Michael Palmer looked good on the fake of the bubble screen.
Screens-Slip screens and bubble screens were big again but the Tigers did not feature running back screens.
Drops- I can’t remember any drops from Saturday.
Yards after catch- State did a pretty good job of limiting the big play. I thought they tackled fairly well.
QB throws on time- I thought the quarterbacks excelled in this department.
Offense-Overall
First down yardage- The Tigers had mixed results on first down.
Third down conversion- Clemson has to improve on the 4-12 performance.
Big Plays- Clemson hit four passes of more than 20 yards but none more than 22 yards. Davis had one run of 25 yards but that was the on ly big play in the running game.
Trick plays- The Tigers ran the fake bubble screen to a big play.
Defense-Overall
Tackling-Probably the best tackling effort of the season. The Tigers were also more physical on defense.
First down yardage- Clemson controlled State on first down with the exception of the one 19-yard pass to Phillip Morris.
Third down conversion- The Tigers held State to 3-13. Again, perhaps their best effort of the season.
Limit of Big Plays- Excellent. The Bulldogs’ longest run was nine yards. They only had one pass of 20 or more yards.
Defense-Running game
Interior running game- Dorell Scott, Jarvis Jenkins and Brandon Thompson controlled the line of scrimmage. State had to abandon the run early.
Perimeter running game- The Bulldogs could get nothing on the edge.
Option game- N/A.
Draws- N/A.
Short yardage running game- State had only one short yardage situation and they converted their second and one attempt.
Yards after contact- I thought Clemson did a nice job of tackling and limiting SCSU here.
Defense-Passing Game
Pressure- Clemson sacked the Bulldogs three times but I did not get the impression that the pressure was there a lot of the day.
Underneath passing game coverage- Pretty good. State threw a lot of screens but Clemson tackled well.
Intermediate passing game coverage-Pretty good here as well.
Vertical passing game coverage- Excellent. Clemson had a couple of picks and State got nothing downfield.
Screens-State really used the bubble screen and slip screen but Clemson limited yards after the catch.
Passes broken up- DeAndre McDaniel, Josh Miller, Byron Maxwell and Michael Hamlin broke up passes for the Tigers.
Open field tackling-Excellent.
Special Teams
Kickoff returns- State only kicked off once.
Kick-off coverage- Excellent. Clemson has really improved in this area this season.
Punt return/block- Spiller averaged almost 10 yards per punt on his three returns.
Punt coverage-Snap, protection, punt, coverage- Excellent. Maners averaged 40.5 yards and did not allow a return on either of his two punts. Snaps and protection was good again.
Field Goals/extra points-snap, hold, protection, kick- Once again all field goals and extra points were true. Snaps, holds and protection were good.
Overall Team
Energy, Enthusiasm, Leadership- I liked the purple jerseys and the players seemed to draw some energy from them.
Coaching
Emotionally prepared-The team seemed like it was ready to play and emotionally prepared.
Game plan-I liked the idea that the offense exploited the advantage between the tackles and did not try the perimeter running game.
Adjustments- I am not sure any adjustments were needed here.
Personnel-I still think Korn should have played the entire second half. I am not sure what was accomplished by playing Harper with a 37-point lead.
Time outs- N/A

Good "worksheet"! Especially that last comment about Harper playing with a 37 point lead. Korn needs experience with first team.
I am pro-Harper, however since he courageously dived over goalline against BC last year, he has not been the same. He was All-American material until then. Now, at best, he may be honorable mention ACC. He has not divulged his shoulder problems until after the games he looked poor in.
What about long passes to AK?
PROVE ME WRONG PLEASE! COME BACK HARPER! GO TIGERS!

I wonder why the coaches let Harper stay in so long. So that Harper could pad his stats to set records and impress the NFL? Or because they were afraid that if Korn played better for an entire half that it would fuel a QB controversy? Or something else? I think it would be hard to argue that Harper needed the reps more than Korn. I agree with Captron that Harper hasn't been the same since the BC shoulder injury. I wonder just how healthy that shoulder really is.

Willy Korn is a better QB than Harper. The coaches must be worried about team chemistry. Please stop telling the loyal Clemson fans, Tommy, that you are putting the best players on the field.

Why do we do smart things such as man blocking, pulling linemen, using 3 point stance, etc against the weak teams, but against better teams we employ the complicated, hard to learn, confusing zone blocking and 2 point stances?? Rob Spence!!!!!!!!!

Also, I would have to say that converting only 4-12 third downs against a 1-AA team is absolutely ridiculous. Have to be better than that to beat any ACC team.
