Dear Aaron Kelly,
Dear Aaron Kelly,
You may be down right now and might have heard or read some things about the game Saturday but I just wanted to say thank you and to tell you how much we love you and support you.
At the end of the Central Michigan game my four-year old niece came down to the front row of the stadium and was trying to get the attention of the Tiger mascot. There were about 10-15 little boys that were down there asking for you and your teammates’ sweatbands and autographs. I can’t tell you how much it meant to a four-year old little girl when you gave your sweatband to her instead of the boys. She still has it today and wants me to get you to autograph it for her.
She lives just outside Columbia and is surrounded by Gamecocks but one of her best friends at school is a little Clemson Tiger fan and he dressed up as a Tiger football player for Halloween. My niece, Isabella, was telling me about it and I asked what number he wore. “Number one,” she said. I asked her if she knew who was number one for the Tigers and she said, “James Davis.” I asked her if James Davis was her favorite Clemson football player and she replied, “No way. Aaron Kelly is the best!”
Isabella is fascinated by Clemson, the hill, Howard’s Rock, the band, the cheerleaders, the Tiger Twirlers, Tiger Paws and Tiger Rag. She spells out C-L-E-M-S-O-N at the end of Tiger Rag better than some of the adults that sit near me in the stands. She knows Tommy Bowden when she sees him on TV. When asked about USC she claims “The Gamecocks stink!” I was channel surfing over the weekend and she asked if we could watch the Gamecocks lose on TV.
She knows James Davis and C.J. Spiller but she loves Aaron Kelly. When you broke the record for touchdown receptions for a single season at Clemson she did not fully grasp the idea of the record but she knew you scored a touchdown. She has learned to spell her name and recently learned how to dial her grand parents’ number on her mother’s cell phone but she can now count higher because she knows Aaron Kelly is number 80.
I just wanted you to know that my niece loves Aaron Kelly. You can drop every ball ever thrown to you for the rest of your life and she would still love Aaron Kelly.
They say that kids understand life because they are usually full of bliss. They don’t worry about bills or mortgage payments. They don’t have to worry about their jobs or school. They don’t have to concern themselves with all of the stuff we overemphasis as adults and truly just enjoy life for what it is. I know we could always learn a lesson about what it means to live a life full of bliss from toddlers and small children.
I think we all could learn a lesson from my niece Isabella. We love you and want you to know how much we support you.
I personally should be embarrassed that I don’t know you but that is best because of my jobs and your status as a student-athlete. But because I don’t personally know you does not mean I have not kept up with you and have not been watching and paying attention. I know you could have signed with a lot of different schools but I am very thankful you chose my school over Wake Forest and Georgia. I am glad you chose Clemson and I will joyfully always think you as a Tiger. When you make it to the NFL you might be a Seahawk, Charger or Jet but you will be a Tiger to me.
I also talk to your position coach, Dabo Swinney, and I am paying attention to what kind of person you are. I am paying attention when people around you tell me how important your faith is to you.
I talk to some of the administrators in Vickery Hall and I am paying attention when they tell me what a good student you are. I have talked to the managers, trainers, doctors and other support personnel and they let me know what great person you are.
I also am paying attention to the ACC stats right now and know that you have twice as many touchdown receptions as anyone else in the ACC this season and more than any player in Clemson history in one season.
I also understand you come from a good family and I know they will continue to be supportive as will your teammates and your close friends.
I just wanted to say thanks for everything you have done for the football program and for the university. Thanks for choosing Clemson. Thanks for the work in the weight room. Thanks for the work during matt drills. Thanks for the summer conditioning. Thanks for the two-a-days. Thanks for breaking the school record for touchdown receptions in a season. Thanks for your hard work in the classroom. Thanks for representing all Clemson fans with class and dignity.
But most of all thanks for making a four-year old little girl understand what a hero is all about.

Plus, if some other players had made plays then we would not have needed aron to catch that ball. The loss can't be blamed on one player.

I have felt sick since our loss on Saturday...not upset for myself, but for all those young men who put their hearts and souls into that game. We are blessed to have young men like Aaron with not only excellent athletic ability, but impressive character. Go tigers! You make us proud!

Aaron Kelly has been an absolutely brilliant, reliable, clutch receiver all year. Everyone was worried because Stuckey left. Holy cow! I'll take AK any day. How could anyone blame him for missing one difficult over-the-shoulder deep ball? That's a relatively low percentage catch. Aaron has saved Clemson so many time this year, I can't even count them all. I blame Spence for trying to run so much against the #2 ranked rush defense, instead of trying to thow to great receivers like Kelly against BC's #110th ranked pass defense. I hope they fire Spence. And I hope that AK stays for his senior year.

And Aaron, ignore Razzmatazz. Most of us really would like to keep the coach who groomed you a quarterback to help you both set records.

Aaron Kelly is a hero in my book...our team would not be where it is without him, and he is going to go on to make a lot of big plays the rest of this season, next season, and then on Sundays.

Awesome, Awesome blog Mickey. I'm glad someone said what I couldn't articulate. Aaron Kelly has been a great player for Clemson all year,and most definitely a class act. I respect that kid and hope he goes on to a prosperous NFL career one day. He will always be a Tiger to me, and so will all of players who play for the team that I love the most. I put my soul into Clemson football for 6 months out of the year and love every second I get to spend in Death Valley. Personally I think we've had a good season. A little above mediocre(as some folks would call it). Yes I am disappointed that we're not going to Jacksonville for the ACC CG, but then again I honestly wasn't expecting to be there this year. This team has far surpassed my expectations for this season. We had an unproven QB starting for the first time in his career, and look what he's done for us? I can't wait until next year. We'll be talking Harper for the Heisman. Our very young team has matured so much over the past 5 games and I thank them for that. I thank them for stepping up, and being men and playing Clemson Football the way it ought to be played. I thank them for the wonderful feeling that was present in DV Saturday night. It was an electric environment and I will never forget it. I thank them for giving me the opportunity to scream my lungs out for 4 qtrs straight, after almost losing my voice before halftime. I thank them for playing their heart and souls out Saturday and not leaving anything out on the field. We played hard, and fought hard. Thank you Clemson Tigers for doing what you do best. I look forward to next season and being the ACC Champion's once again.

Aaron Kelly has been tremendous this year. Without him, we wouldn't have had near the success that we've had this season. Every receiver, I mean EVERY SINGLE ONE doesn't catch them all and that wasn't an easy one anyway.
He will rebound because he is a darn good receiver and a kid of good character in my opinion. He is a fine representative of the Clemson program and a heckuva of a player.

Sorry you guys on the team and the coaching staff have to read some of the garbage on the message boards written by so many who don't have a clue. Those are not the opinions of the majority of the Clemson faithful but that of a vocal minority of whiners. Remember what Teddy Roosevelt said: “It is not the critic who counts; not the man who points out how the strong man stumbles, or where the doer of deeds could have done them better. The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena, whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood, who strives valiantly; who errs and comes short again and again; because there is not effort without error and shortcomings; but who does actually strive to do the deed; who knows the great enthusiasm, the great devotion, who spends himself in a worthy cause, who at the best knows in the end the triumph of high achievement and who at the worst, if he fails, at least he fails while daring greatly. So that his place shall never be with those cold and timid souls who know neither victory nor defeat.” Go get the gamecocks!!

Aaron Kelly is a great receiver, and one heck of a football player. Exciting to watch, and I'm proud he's a Tiger. He leads by example, and he's obviously willing to go the extra mile. I can't wait to see him shine this weekend.

aaron's been making clutch catches all year long. i certainly hope he realizes how much the fans love him and are thankful for the catches he DID make and don't hold against him the very few that he didn't make... aaron is an incredible athlete who has big things in his future. i can't wait to watch him play this saturday, should be amazing. he's going get that one back and many more on saturday.

I echo the same sentiments mentioned here above. I usually would be down in the dumps for many days following a loss like that, but this season has been different. I was bummed out Saturday and Sunday, but my sadness after the loss was due to thinking of the young men on that field who I knew were hurting more than me. I watched it from the stands but they lived it. Thanks for many memories of this year Aaron! You are a great example to many that will follow you and all that sit in the stands and cheer. Looking forward to next year! Thanks for being a true Clemson Tiger!

Aaron's family tailgates next to ours every week and we have enjoyed their company every game. I have never met a nicer young man and a better representative of Clemson University. People like Aaron are one of the many reasons why I am so proud to say that I went to Clemson.

What a stupid article! Are you going to say the same things to guys who dropped the three passes in the same series? Are you going to say the same thing to Butler for blowing coverage on BC's last TD? What about Spences magical multiple bubble screens? Everybody keeps on saying it's not Kelly's fault!! Well, it's not and it's NOT a lot of other people's fault too! So quick freakin' bringing Kelly up like his drop was something so different than anybody else out there!
