Mickey,
Enjoyed your insight on "humility" during this '07 Football Season. What I am hearing and, in fact, what I have felt since the Spring is "cautious optimism".

Last year's implosion in November and the ugly display in Nashville left me extremely pessimistic of the Tigers.....players and coaches alike ....and there have been a few seasons in the recent past where the same feelings seeped in. I was not hearing anything that provided the "warm and fuzzy". Rather, I seemed to keep hearing excuses and was left to deduce on my on that we lacked strong leadership from players and from coaches.

This year's Team Persona is displaying a degree of humbleness and I'm certain this humility is, in part, a result of what happened last Fall. I also believe that solid leadership results in a degree of humility. Too, solid leadership is an asset in overcoming adversity. Adversity is coming.....it always does.... and it seemingly comes in many different "flavors".

One Game At A Time, Tigers !! One Game At A Time !! and the bees are next.

Dennis

Dennis,

Thanks for the e-mail. I agree with your perspective. It is extremely difficult to do but this one game at a time stuff is the right way to handle it. If the Tigers keep winning it would keep getting tougher but that is what the mature teams tend to do.

Mickey,

Has or when do coaches (Bowden) red-shirt players? What players are red-shirted from the 2007 class? How can Jasper Brinkley play next year if he has played 4 games this year?

Meade

Meade,

The staff has not decided to red-shirt anyone yet because at any point in the season they may decide to take the red-shirt off of a freshman. The true freshmen that have not played yet are: Brandon Clear, Mason Cloy, Wilson Norris, David Smith, Landon Walker, Drew Traylor, Andre Branch, Byron Clear, Cody Sensabaugh and Brandon Maye. Chad Diehl will receive a medical hardship and be a freshman next season. As far as Brinkley is concerned, the new rule says you can play in 30% of your team’s games and still qualify for a medical hardship.

Mickey:

I was pleased to see Coach Bowden say,"Players not overly impressed with themselves. Have done a pretty good job of staying focused." Frankly, the #13 rankings scares me because Tommy's teams have not handled success very well in the past. We seem to get too caught up in the moment instead of staying focused. I hope we stay focused this year!

Best,

Kirk

Kirk,

I can see why fans are cautious but the staff and players are saying the right things. In the end execution is what matters but you execute better when the players are focused.

Mickey,
You can tell Spurrier has been in Columbia too long…what a freakin' loser. Kicking a field goal down 21 points with 8 minutes left in the game. All South Carolina fans are defending the move that " we couldn't have scored the touchdown anyway, so that gets us closer so we don't fall down the rankings too fall". Are you kidding me?!! Then, I watch the Steve Spurrier show on Sunday and he reacts to questioning by Todd Ellis about the move the same way. Are you freakin' kidding me?! Then I look at all newspaper articles about our game and that game and no news writers bring that up. HUH?

If Coach Bowden were to do that, he would have been raked over the coals and
crucified by both the sportswriters and his fan base.

I just wanted to vent about how quickly one becomes a loser when they live
in Columbia.

Have a nice day.

Bubba

Bubba,
I was surprised he went for a field goal when they had the ball at the LSU six-yard line. It looked to me as if he was trying to have a game like he has had on the road when he beat Arkansas, Tennessee and Georgia. Those were low scoring games where he tried to shorten the game. He ran the ball in the first half in an attempt to try to get the game in the fourth quarter. Once he realized they could not win the game he looked like he just wanted the score to look as close as he could get it.

Mickey,

I listen to your radio show every morning, and would like to ask you two questions that I haven’t been able to find an answer to:
1. What happened to Stanley Hunter? He was in the preseason media guide, but I haven’t seen him in person or in the programs for the first two games.
2. What is the status of Etta-Tawo (sp?), I haven’t seen him either even though he is also in the media guide. Has his heart ailment been clearly diagnosed? If he can’t play, does Clemson lose that scholarship for as long as he’s still enrolled, or do they get it back?

Thanks, keep up the good work.

Trent

Trent,

Hunter did not qualify academically and is currently working out and taking the SAT/ACT and hopes to enroll at Clemson in January. Etta-Tawo is finished with football. The risk was too big and now he is just taking classes. He will not play football again. He is on a medical scholarship now and his scholarship does not count against football’s 85.

Mick,
How healthy are the Tigers heading into the Tech game?

BB

BB,
Rendrick Taylor will not play Saturday and now may be out a while. Nelson Faerber is also out with a hip issue. The good news is Chris Wade says he will play this weekend despite a broken arm. He will wear a cast and may play on special teams. Obviously Diehl and McElrathbey are out. Thomas Austin is still nicked but he will play. James Davis has a shoulder bruise but he will play.

Any truth to the message board talk of Jacoby Ford having a concussion?

Thank God Chris Wade is available. Will any other of our walk-ons be available to play on special teams? Or as an alternative, do we have any other guys with broken arms that could play? I'm glad to see that the new special teams coach has solved our special teams problems by using 1-armed players and walk-ons. I'm surprised nobody thought of this sooner. Good work!

Rendrick Taylor maybe out for a while? Huh? When did this happen?
