Mickey,

Did you know Don Wade? He was a great gentleman. God rest his soul.

Tom

Tom,
I met Coach Wade back in 1986. You are right. He was a gentleman. I always thought he was a good man and a good Clemson man. I know a couple of his family members and my condolences go out to them. I can still remember the days of Bob Bradley heading out of the office in the summer and heading over to pick up Coach Wade to go fishing. He will be missed.

Mick,

How does Kyle Stanley’s skill set compare to Lucas Glover, Charles Warren, Jonathan Byrd and D.J. Trahan’s? Can he be the best Clemson golfer ever? Have you played with him?

Johnny

Johnny,
I have not played with Stanley but have talked to both Coach Penley and Coach Byrd about him and they rave about his potential. Stanley is a very focused player. He knows what he wants to do and has a plan on how to get there. No one works harder than Stanley on this team. From talking to his coaches and his teammates I understand that he is a tremendous driver of the golf ball. He drives the ball extremely long and very straight. I would say he is focused like Jonathan but has the talent of Lucas and D.J. He has a chance to be as good as any to play at the school.

Mickey,

I don't think I got the question across to you like I wanted. I kinda drifted between TB and the administration. Do you think the administration has some hand in the current state of our program as well as the future of the program? If you ask me we are DEAD last in support from the President and BOT of ANY school in the ACC (and probably the nation for that matter) when it comes to 100% support for the football program. Do you agree??

Steve

Steve,

It is well documented that I think the administration has not supported Bowden. Several members of the board do not like him personally and have not supported him in their circles. The president and BOT love to say that no one wants to win more than them but their words are different than their actions. It is still Bowden’s responsibility but 100% support would definitely make things easier.

Mickey,

I am shocked that the NCAA has selected Mississippi State to host the Super Regionals. In the pairings below, the NCAA mad the team with the best record the host with the exception of the Clemson-Mississipi State games (perhaps Michigan will travel to Oregon State, but Oregon State would be 42-18 if they beat Virginia). I realize our seating capacity at Doug Kingsmore needs to be increased, but winning percentage should count for something, especially when you have a better overall record than the opposing team (41-21 is better than 36-20).

Best,

Kirk

Kirk,
We wrote two blogs on this subject this week and I am still upset. Dwight Rainey said it was a “travesty”. Jack Leggett said he needed an explanation. Was their foul play with MSU AD Larry Templeton? With that said, it is now time to move on. Clemson can win the super regional and advance to Omaha. I think Clemson is better but this is the fifth straight weekend on the road and at sometime it might take a toll. Let’s hope for the best.

Mickey,

Mickey,
You're a better man than I. When I think of Clemson athletics this
past year I can only think of one thing to say
"AAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!". Mickey I bleed, sweat, drink, and *beep* orange, and the mediocrity has to stop. I can’t take anymore slow starts, or abysmal finishes, no more missed free throws ...... Just tired Mickey, and it’s only gonna get worse. The upgrades the rest of the schools in the ACC have made in facilities and coaching will surely have a effect on our standing and where I don't think Spurrier will lead the Shamecocks to greatness, if we aren’t careful we will be playing catch up.

Has anyone ever looked Tommy Bowden in the eye and point blank asked him, "Can you get it done?" and has he responded, without coach speak and twisting reality? Yes or No

(Sigh)
Richard

Richard,

Clemson had four teams make it to the Sweet 16 this year. Baseball and men’s track have a chance to do some more damage. It hurt that we did not have the breakthrough year in any sport but most were solid. Bowden is fully aware of what is expected of him.

Mickey,

I was just looking at some other teams schedules and it looks like lots of other schools are taking advantage of the extra 12th game. Miami is playing Oklahoma and Texas A&M, Florida State is playing Colorado and Alabama, Virginia Tech is playing LSU, and UNC is matching up with USC. I'd loved it when we played Texas A&M and Georgia in recent years. Have you heard anything about Clemson scheduling games with any big time schools in the future?

Chris

Chris,

Clemson had a series with Oklahoma but it was cancelled. Georgia, Vanderbilt and Pittsburgh are on the future schedules. I think Ole Miss may be coming on. Auburn was also on bit it got cancelled. It is easier to talk about opponents but getting the contract signed is much tougher.

Mickey ---

Wouldn't it be great to see a renewal of the series with Notre Dame? 1977 and 1979 were two of the more memorable games in Clemson history, both because of the quality of the play on the field and the high profile of the opponent.

Do you think we'll ever see our Tigers play the Irish again outside of a bowl game?

Mickey,

FYI, this was posted this morning in the Daily Oklahoman regarding Oklahoma State getting shipped to play at the University of Louisville this weekend. http://newsok.com/article/3063814

Road rage
•For a while after OSU advanced through Arkansas, it appeared the Cowboys might host the Super Regional. But Stillwater was passed over for Louisville, which used its connections: athletic director Tom Jurich is a former member of the baseball selection committee. Jurich politicked his old buddies for more than two hours on the phone. For the Cowboys, it might be for the best. They're winless in their last six games played in Oklahoma; winners of nine straight beyond state borders. And this club seems to revel in beating teams in their own backyard.

While ultimately, I don't think it will matter to either Clemson or Oklahoma State (at least one can hope), it does provide further insight to the B.S. on site selection.

Mickey,
How about listing the Tiger underclassmen[Jrs.] that were drafted last weekend as well as the recruits we thought were to be entering CU this fall. I realize we took a hit with the number of Tifers and future Tigers being chosen but hope the attrition is not an overwhelming detriment to the 2008 team.

I keep hearing rumors that the CU Administration and Board are not supportive of Coach Bowden. Is this factual? I know the recent flapdoodle re: letters of intent was clearly not in the best interest of our recruiting. That issue is supposed to be rectified. Maybe a better question is: What are the consequences of those who permitted such a situation to exist? These are supposed to be "thinkers" and "Clemson loyalist." They may be big fish in a small pond, but collectively, we "Tigers" have the capacity to effect theri removal (See the number of e-mails to Pres. Barker. That was a "power of the people." Would it have been rectified if Mick had not exposed this and many of us responded? That, my friends, is the threshold question. Incidentally, I HEARD that Tiger recruit Jones has been enrolled at UNC.

Ocho

PS: I'm going nuts trying to remember the name of the safety (Sr. Year)(Corner before that). Was there two years ago. From Jax., Fla., A small back, but very good. Saved the UNC game one year by stripping ball as UNC QB was going into the zone at end of game. Can anyone help me?
