Mickey,
On your radio show you mentioned purple helmets. Do you know if Clemson has this available to them? I'd like to see a solid purple one weekend.
Would the helmet be purple with orange paw? Purple with white paw? How about Purple with orange paw and orange facemask, with purple jerseys and pants with white numbers bordered in orange and white and orange stripes on the pants?
Just a thought.
Thanks,
Billy
Billy,
I know they have at least one purple helmet but I can’t confirm they have them for the entire team. The one I saw was purple with a white paw. I can’t remember if the facemask was purple, white or gray but it was not orange.
I know some people don’t like the purple but it is one of the school colors. I really like it and I think Dabo likes it. I do think the helmet does not need to change colors. I would like to see a little bigger tiger paw on the helmets.
I liked the old designs and I also like the new ones under Bowden. I would like to see some throw back stuff more often and the best is the white home jerseys worn in the 1960s with the stripes on the shoulders.
Some people think this uniform stuff is silly but I love it. It is nice to have great looking uniforms like the Tigers.
Mickey,
I have enjoyed reading your blog, and am glad you have kept us up-to-date with Ryan, as he is an inspiration to us all. The video you posted last week was phenomenal. I have several questions:
First, what changes do you think we will see in the depth chart between what was just released by Dabo and what we will see line up on September 5? I have heard rumblings that Kevin Alexander and Marcus Gilchrist could end up starting at LB and Safety, respectively.
Second, do you think the TV deal the SEC signed with CBS and ESPN is going to have a major impact on the rest of the conferences, most notably the ACC? I could see this hurting us in several ways. First, it will give the SEC a lot more television coverage, which will put their games on the televisions of every recruit in the country. Second, it will enable those schools to spend more on athletic facilities and coaches than the competition in the other conferences. I know you don't like to root for other members of the ACC, but if our league does not improve its national image as a big-time athletic conference, then we will not get the same TV money as the SEC, and will be behind the eight-ball for a long time. I just don't believe those in the ACC (including the school officials and their fans) understand how the new SEC TV deal could shift the balance of power in college athletics for a very long time.
Hugh
Hugh,
Thanks for the kind words about Ryan. As far as the depth chart is concerned, I am interested in several positions. Obviously the quarterback battle will continue throughout the fall. I think both quarterbacks will play in 2009.
The right tackle spot is still up for grabs. My gut tells me Landon Walker’s experience will be a key but J.K. Jay is a talent.
I don’t think Dalton Freeman can beat out Mason Cloy at center but he will get significant snaps.
We could see Brandon Ford moving ahead of Brandon Clear as the second-team X receiver.
Terrence Ashe will have to hold off Jaron Brown at the Z wide out.
On defense, Ricky Sapp and Kevin Alexander are bracketed as co-starters at one defensive end. Sapp may get a look at an outside linebacker because the staff is comfortable with Alexander and his assignments.
The staff is concerned at linebacker but I think Brandon Maye and Kavell Conner will be solid. I am not sure what will happen at the SAM linebacker.
I think we could see Marcus Gilchrist at free safety at some point.
Mickey,
Thanks for the info about Nnamdi's untimely passing. I did not notice the article until I read your blog. Nnamdi (and Christian) along with the rest of the soccer team lived on my hall for a couple of years. He was not only a truly dominating player, and one of the best athletes I have seen at Clemson or anywhere else, but he seemed to be a man of character – humble in spite of his athletic accomplishments, yet strong in presence, almost noble in that regard. A few weeks back you blogged about people with "it"- well Nnamdi was one of those people.
Enjoy reading your blogs and listening to the radio show when I get a chance. Glad to know that Ryan continues to do better and know you are blessed by the change in perspective that such events (and the ensuing prayer) brings to us all. keep up the great work.

Tim,
I appreciate your nice words about Ryan. I did not get a chance to see Nnamdi play but have always been fascinated by his numbers. Everyone that saw him play tells me about his advanced athleticism but I was pleased to hear your input about his character. Thanks for adding to the blog.
Mickey,
Can anything be done about the ACC’s TV contract? The SEC’s contract is ridiculous and appears to be a huge advantage. IS this a big enough deal that the ACC can close the gap?
Thanks and Go Tigers!
Pam
Pam,
You are correct. The SEC’s advantage in the football TV contracts is significant and is a big a deal. The way I read it the SEC schools average about $10 million more per school than the ACC schools. A $10 million difference is a tremendous advantage. What can the ACC do? First and foremost the ACC needs to improve its football. They need to increase the quality of play across the board. It would help financially if the powers (Miami, Florida State and Clemson) would return to their form of the 80s and 90s.
