Hi Mickey,

This question is just a little bit off the wall, but what the heck? I was wondering the other day if you are aware of any children of former Clemson athletes that might be prospective student-athletes at Clemson in the foreseeable future, e.g., a Bennie Cunningham, Jr., a Tree Rollins, II, or a Terry Allen, Jr (hah)?

I hope Ryan is continuing to make progress. Thank you.

Kirk

Kirk,

That is a terrific question. I am sure many of these guys have wonderful kids and good athletes. This past year Clemson brought in Rodney Blunt’s son in for an official visit but did not offer. I think Stan Rome’s son will be a football prospect this season too. What they have to do is keep the great one at Clemson. For example Clemson has lost two former players sons to Florida in the last five or six years. I am not sure who all will be prospects in the future but it is an interesting storyline.

Thanks for the kind words about Ryan.

Mickey,

I recently read a comment in a newspaper about a high school football quarterback recruit being visited by a recruiter from, I believe, the University of Wisconsin. The recruit mentioned that he had thrown for the recruiter to show the recruiter his arm.

This made me wonder, for I never knew that recruits could perform any demonstrations for visiting recruiters.

Please tell me what high school players are allowed to do to demonstrate their skills for visiting recruiters.

Thanks for any input.

RK

RK,

I am not sure of the specific case you are referring to. Maybe he coach came to a practice or a game. I was not aware this was legal otherwise but again I am not familiar with all of the rules in these type of situations.

Hi Mickey!

Enjoyed the ACC roundup (2/12/09) but you left out Clemson's projections/losses on offense and defense - that could take a full day's blog?
I am fully behind Dabo and all the old and new coaches and hope that this year will be a new attitude among Clemson fans and football team. I look forward to reading your column every day. Thank-you for your work and support for Clemson.

All in - in '09.

Alex

Alex,
I appreciate your kind words. I think we all may have learned our lesson last year about predicting wins and losses. There was no way in my mind that I saw Clemson going 7-6. Who saw a home loss to Maryland?

I do think next year’s team will be better at quarterback, running back, tight end and on the offensive line. The main question mark on offense going into the season will be wide receivers. On defense I think they will be better on the defensive line, linebackers and corners but the main question mark is the safeties. I have no idea who the place kicker will be but would think the special teams would be pretty solid.

My overall thoughts are that the schedule is pretty manageable and fair. I am not sure about a Thursday night trip to Atlanta without an open date though. I like the fact that Clemson does not play back-to-back road games and I love the fact that South Carolina is the only team on the schedule that has an open date before playing Clemson.

As far as wins and losses, I have no idea. How can you tell? In terms of difficulty I would rank the schedule like this:
1. @Georgia Tech
2. @Miami
3. Florida State
4. @NC State
5. @Maryland
6. @South Carolina
7. Wake Forest
8. Boston College
9. Virginia
10. Middle Tennessee
11. Coastal
12. Idaho
Just for a quick prediction, how does 8-4 sound?

Mickey,
So is it Central Michigan or Idaho? Does anyone know for sure?

Bill

Bill,
It currently is officially Central Michigan but Clemson will not play Central Michigan. I think you will see Idaho replace Central Michigan on the schedule soon. I would look for an official announcement on that in the near future.

Mick,
What is the deal with Bryce Brown? What are our chances? How good is he? How much would he play next season if he came to Clemson?

Thanks,
Carl

Carl,
I am not sure anyone knows all of the facts on Brown. He plays games with the media sometimes and likes to put up smoke screens. I have never gotten the feeling Clemson has had even a 20% shot at Brown. I would be extremely surprised if they sign him. He is an unbelievable player that would be the best player to ever sign with the Tigers. If he came, he would see the field immediately and be a big part of the offense. I still think it is not worth getting too excited about though.
