Overall Report Analysis-Grades and Comments:
Offense-Rushing
Interior running game- The Tigers did not focus on the running game Saturday but were successful to a certain extent. I think the staff would have liked to see more out of the offensive line especially the interior linemen.
Perimeter running game- James Davis and C.J. Spiller only had 13 carries but the average was high.
Option game-N/A.
Draws-N/A
Short yardage running game- The Tigers were 2-4 in short yardage situations but did not make the fourth and two when Spiller was stopped. I am not sure why Spiller would be in the game on a short-yardage situation.
Yards after contact- This was an average game in this aspect.

Offense-Passing
Pass protection- Excellent. Cullen Harper and Willy Korn had plenty of time to distribute the football.
Underneath passing game- Excellent. Both Harper and Korn looked crisp and did a nice job out getting a lot of receivers involved.
Intermediate passing game- Harper looked sharp here. He hit Linthicum on the touchdown and made several nice secondary reads.
Vertical passing game- Jacoby Ford and C.J. Spiller were utilized well in the vertical game.
Screens- I liked the way Tyler Grisham gets North and South with his screens and gets positive yards.
Drops- I thought the Tiger receivers did a nice job of catching the football Saturday.
Yards after catch- Grisham, Ford and Spiller stand out with this aspect of the game from Saturday.
QB throws on time- Excellent. The quarterbacks did not hold the ball too long but also did not throw into coverage.

Offense-Overall
First down yardage- The Tigers hit big plays on first down and 20 of their 31 first downs netted at least 5 yards.
Third down conversion- Three of eight is OK but I like the idea they only had eight third down chances. That number is very low.
Big Plays- Clemson hit plays of 68, 52 and 27 yards. In all they had nine plays of 14 or more yards.
Trick plays- N/A

Defense-Overall
Tackling-Poor. Unfortunately this effort looked like last year’s South Carolina and Kentucky games.
First down yardage- First downs did not kill the defense as they held the Warhawks to less than five yards on 25 of their 35 first down attempts.
Third down conversion- This was perhaps the most disappointing stat of the day. Louisiana-Monroe was 11 of 21 on third downs and converted on nine third downs with tbhey needed six or more yards.
Limit of Big Plays- UL-M hit on nine plays of 14 or more yards.

Defense-Running game
Interior running game- Tackling led to a poor effort here. Clemson would be in place but fail to make the play.
Perimeter running game- Monroe sealed the defensive ends ways too many times. Clemson lost contain too often.
Option game- The Warhawks ran the zone-option read play that killed Clemson the entire game.
Draws- The Tigers did not recognize the draw the entire game and this play hurt as much as any they ran.
Short yardage running game- Louisiana-Monroe converted on three of their five short-yardage situations.
Yards after contact- Poor, poor, poor. The Tigers cannot afford to tackle like this and expect to beat a good team.

Defense-Passing Game
Pressure- Clemson did not try to pressure the passer with extra attackers and the draw helped slow down the pass rush. I thought Monroe had way too much time.
Underneath passing game coverage- This was not as crisp as we saw against FSU.
Intermediate passing game coverage-The Tigers gave way too much cushion and payed for it.
Vertical passing game coverage- Monroe did not attempt to go vertical too often but hit on three passes of 20 or more yards.
Screens-This was not as big of a factor as I would have thought going into the game.
Passes broken up- Kavell Conner broke up a couple of passes and Phillip Merling, Nick Watkins and DeAndre McDaniel had PBUs.

Open field tackling- Very poor.

Special Teams
Kickoff returns- Thus unit provided nothing special this week.
Kick off coverage- Outstanding for the second straight week. It appears the staff and players have this one figured out.

Punt return/block- This unit was not much of a factor.

Punt coverage-Snap, protection, punt, coverage- Huge Improvement from week one to week two.

Field Goals/extra points-snap, hold, protection, kick- I thought the extra points, snaps, holds and protection were flawless.

Overall Team
Energy, Enthusiasm, Leadership- This was a hard week because of the turn around and the opponent.

Coaching
Emotionally prepared- I thought the team lacked emotion but we will give them a pass considering this was the second game in five days.
Game plan- The offensive game plan was to establish the pass and give Harper and Korn confidence. It worked very well. Defensively the game plan was very vanilla and it cost them.
Adjustments- The defense never adjusted to the draw and the running game of the Warhawks. The offense was expecting more blitzes but adjusted well.
Personnel-The staff played a bunch of players including freshmen that did not play against FSU.
Time outs-This was not a factor in the contest.
