Mickey,
If TB was let go for yet another disappointing season (I'm saying 6-5 or worse being disappointing along with a couple of blowout losses) who he thinks our AD might be able to get to come coach here. We still do not, nor will we any time soon, have the 100% support from the administration that ANY quality D1 football coach would desire to have to come to Clemson. Add to the fact that it would still be two or three years before our football facility quest is finally completed why would any quality coach want to come here? I am hoping TB succeeds here, stays here and we finally get it going in the right direction but ask your friend how the relationship REALLY is between the football program and the likes of the egghead AARC and who does he think could come here and succeed in the same situation that TB is currently stuck in.

Steve

Steve,

I only got to about ten percent of the questions e-mailed on the air this morning. You make some good points but it is way too early to start thinking about the coach in 2008. There will be plenty of time for speculation if the season turns bad in September. Let’s cross that bridge if and when we get there. Thanks.

Mickey:

If you ever get a chance and a free moment, can you explain the problems that exist between the Clemson and UGA athletic departments, the schedulers, and the hem-hawing / posturing / excuse-making over why the Tigers and Dawgs don't meet every year?

Why can't we sign a 30 year contract (like Notre Dame and Michigan) to play every year in football? One of my largest sports peeves in life involves the lapse of the yearly UGA-Clemson game.

As fans and donors, whom should we address such concerns to? Dwight Rainey's replacement? Dr. Phillips? People at Georgia? I'll write and mail a letter a day for as long as it takes.

How can we let both sides know that a game with UGA (or with Clemson, from their standpoint) is a no-brainer in terms of exposure, spotlight, money, prestige, and common sense? I mean, we can still both play 2 Nowhere States for a pair of gimmes, each other, our conference schedules, + our rivals (GA Tech and SC)? Why should this be so hard?

2 games every 10 years or so is not sufficient for me. 1 game in football every year, home and home in basketball (same with USC), and 6 games in baseball (same with USC) are on my Christmas list every year. Your thoughts

Kind wishes and GO TIGERS,

Allen

Allen,

I could not have said it better myself. Clemson and Georgia need to play every September in football and I love the idea of two basketball games and six baseball games. I hate to tell you but they will not play in basketball this year. Life is too short and I will take the Clemson-Georgia series memories with me for a lifetime but I can’t vividly remember Clemson-UNLV from the early 1990s.

The football series ended when the SEC expanded its conference schedule to eight games. Vince Dooley and his people felt an extra SEC game would be difficult and they had no intention of playing Clemson every year on top of that.

As far as how to reach both schools you can write Clemson’s athletic department at P.O. Box 31
Clemson, SC 29633 and Georgia’s address is PO Box 1472 Athens, Ga. 30603. Also e-mail correspondence can be sent to Clemson at www.clemsontigers.com and Georgia’s can be sent to www.georgiadogs.com.

Mickey,
Please ask Bill D’Andrea if there will be the opportunity to group an IPTAY donor’s seats together. For example, I purchase 6 tickets total and because my seating has improved in the last 5 years, all of the seats are not together. I have 3 sets of 2 seats that are rows apart. If I am able to stay in the same stadium location because of my IPTAY points and giving level, will I be able to get all the seats grouped together.
Thanks.
Will

Will,
Yes, you will be able to get seats together a lot easier now. This move is good news if not splitting your tickets is a priority with your situation. I hope he answered more of your questions this morning.

Mickey,

I am alumni and in IPTAY I am also a big supporter of Tommy but based on some of what I heard during Dan Scott's show Thursday it seems as though the seat equity plan could be used as ammunition against Tommy. If people feel like they are giving more money they also have increased expectations of the product on the field and will use that to pressure a change. I personally believe that this yr is going to be an uphill battle because of the issues at QB and O-line do to the turnover and inexperience. Those two things would cause problems for any coach and I think Tommy should get at least 1 more year because of it. Just wondered what your opinion was on this and if you think it might be used to push for a coaching change if we have another average year.

Richard

Richard,
I think you make a good point because people always want to get what they pay for. I hope that will not be a factor. There are so many questions about this season and the answers will come soon but I hope this will not affect Bowden’s job status. However we all know how important money will be in any aspect today.

Mickey,
You are correct to say that everyone will have the "opportunity" to retain their seats, but I predict that many will be unable to step up to the financial commitment required to do so. I have spoken at length with the ticket office about an on-going 3 year request to change seats... not necessarily upgrade, just a move to something comparable. Given my need for 4 seats together, this has not been attainable over this period. However, they tell me that given my contribution level, re-seating me next year is highly likely - and in better seats - once the deck is re-shuffled. I would assume this is due to so many long-time ticket holders that each season give relatively little, but due to their longevity have held premium seating for a very long time. These folks will lose those cherished seats, unless they write a bigger check. Many won't be in a position to do that.

I happen to think that the percentage of "1 in 3" being affected is very significant. (I believe that was the percentage given as quoted by the ticket office.) I don't think anyone can downplay the potential effect of this re-seating. A lot of Clemson fans will have new "neighbors" next year, for better or worse.

As far as your blog today, one need not look any further than recent FSU teams to see that talent, while indeed the number one ingredient to success, only gets you so far without the proper coaching. I would hate to bring in a new coach in 2009, but I'm afraid Tommy isn't the game day coach he needs to be to get us to ACC Championships and beyond. I've also heard that 8 wins is the minimum in order to keep his job. Any further insight? Hopefully he can pull it off...

Thanks as always for your professional work done with integrity.

Bobby

Bobby,
I agree that some will not to maintain their current seats and I feel bad for them. However, the positives outweigh the negatives. Also I think many will now see an opportunity to upgrade their seats so premium seating will be a big priority revenue will increase.

I agree about the future of the program and I hope Bowden can stay but either way this program has a very bright long-term outlook. I do not think there is a number of wins in place for him to keep his job but I think it will be fairly obvious what will happen by the first of November.

Mickey,

I just watched the video for the first time. Its pretty good. You are no McKinney Dodge girl though. Maybe you could do an infomercial for George Coleman Ford.

Tony

Tony,
It is pretty obvious why I am on the radio instead of TV.
