USC 2006 preview.
Yesterday I looked at Clemson's upcoming schedule, today I'll give try to break down USC's upcoming schedule. Our Gamecocks friends seem to be really excited about year two of the Spurrier era. The offense has some weapons. Rice is a stud, Mitchell has progressed into a good QB, and Mike Davis really came on at the end of last year. Now, factor in the return of Boyd and Newton, and the Gamecock offense could be fun to watch. If (and that's a big if) the offensive line plays like Spurrier seems to think they can, USC will put up some points. The defense on the other hand, has a ton of question marks. They lost a lot of starters from an already weak defense. This Gamecock team reminds me a little of Clemson's 2000 team. An offense that can put up points, but a defense that will have trouble keeping other teams off the field. It's just too bad for USC that their schedule is much tougher than the one the Tigers faced in 2000.
MSU: W, This game will be a close one, but USC has more firepower.
UGA: L, Coach Richt won't make the same mistake he made last year. The Dawgs will pound the rock and pull this one out.
Wofford: W, The Cocks win easy.
FAU: W, This one won't be close as FAU goes 0 for SC.
AU: L, Auburn is the best team in the SEC. It's may not be as ugly as last year, but it won't be pretty.
Kentucky: W, The Cats have a lot of experience returning, but Rice will have a field day.
Vandy: W, Vandy lost too much talent from last years squad to pull this one out.
UT: L, The Vols get revenge in a close one.
Arkansas: W, The Rozorbacks could suprise people, but the Cocks pull this one out at home.
Florida: L, The Gators are the class of the East this year. Spurrier's homecoming won't be as happy as he would like.
Mid Tenn: W, The Cocks win this one going away.
Clemson: L, Too much Davis and company for the USC defensive line to handle.
The way I see it, the Cocks go 7-5 with a chance to get that rare eighth win in a bowl game. Not too bad of a season for them if you ask me.
