At the end of 2022, it was 8.3% uninsured. At the end of 2023, it's down to 7.7%. This is as low as it's ever been in this country. A few things that are likely driving it down:
1) ACA subsidies are stronger than pre-Biden: In 2021, Biden & the Dems did a re-work of the ACA subsidies to make them a better deal to working & middle-class people. They also re-funded navigators who help enroll people. They also marketed the ACA more strongly on various media outlets than in prior administrations. All of this drives more people to the exchanges to purchase either a private policy or find out that they qualify for Medicaid coverage.
2) Medicare: As baby-boomers continue to retire, they reach an age where they all qualify for Medicare.
3) Employer-provided: As employment has completely recovered from the pandemic, employer-provided coverage is available to a higher % of the population, since more people are working.
4) Medicaid: More states have accepted the Medicaid expansion, which helps previously uninsured.
