Aren't we top 10 in the country? Every time we trail there are a plethora of threads in here freaking out about it. This year more than ever I can remember in past years despite us being way better this year. I see it on twitter to. Bunch of dramatic responses to every time we trail at all.
I guess people care again which is good. Apathy was starting to set in during the Lee years (and also the late Leggett years).
But still some of y'all need to chill a bit.

I can’t speak for everyone (this team has been very fun to watch and still think we can get a few things tightened up and be a threat for Omaha) but I don’t think it’s ppl frustrated with losing just one game… this has been almost a two week skid where we look pretty bad and get behind early and it’s against way less talented teams… we are making a guy throwing freakin 90 look like an mlb starter lol… and that happens but it’s not just today this team hasn’t been playing up to the standard from earlier in the year for about 2 weeks now… doesn’t mean it can’t turn around but this team now isn’t a threat to make an Omaha run it’s just not especially gifting runs early every game. Again doesn’t mean we can’t turn it around which I expect to happen but the last handful of games just look like we are going through the motions imo

… the MLB fastball velocity average for a starter is right around 94 mph. And it’s only recently that it has trended upwards - for much of the 2000s it hovered around 91 mph. So… tell me again how easy it is to hit a 90 mph fastball? Since it’s almost professional level, seems pretty hard to me. Especially if the pitcher also has good off speed working that day.

I haven’t posted today but we are down 8. The miracle against FSU doesn’t happen very often. It literally almost never happens.
I also haven’t read the threads yet but from my point of view we have been mediocre at pitching and the bats have held us up the first half of the season. I have said this during the entire run we were having that the bats would cool eventually and the pitching would soon cost us. Well we saw it last week and it’s continuing. Pitt should be the easiest sweep of the year. They are very bad.
You don’t have to be a dumper or a pumper. Just recognize our inefficiencies. Our pitching will “have to” get better if we are to make Omaha. Hosting regionals and getting a National seed is no longer going to fly when we keep losing in the regionals.

Pitt’s pitching today in the first game would have beaten 95% of teams in the NCAA, the guy was on, probably his best game ever.
Every dog has his day & sometimes in baseball it comes against a good team, that’s why it’s hard to win baseball games every time.

No offense but I hear this excuse when we lose in every sport every year. Miami during basketball season comes to mind. Someone always has a game of a lifetime and they’d have beaten anyone that day. Then after that game their team goes on to continue to suck. Reality is we will face good pitching in regionals, even better pitching in super regionals and elite pitching in Omaha. Again our pitching needs to be able to keep team down so by the 8th and 9th inning our batters have a chance to get into their bullpen.

People who didn't give two craps about baseball until basketball was over. They only cared about basketball because we were winning. You know, the worst kind of fans.....but as soon as we lose a game the season is over. May as well forfeit the rest of the games

There seems to be a very large amount of "fans" who are acting as if the season started with game 3 at Notre Dame.
Every game played and stat recorded (team or individual) before then does not exist. In their world, we're 5-4 (4-3 ACC) not 32-7 (13-5 ACC). We have zero wins against ranked teams and it will be by the grace of God if we make any postseason appearance (ACC or NCAA tournament). When they talk about a player doing this and that "all season long", they're referring to what that player has done up to this point from the ND series. They become extremely irate when asked to talk about a game/series or player stat prior to the ND series because they can't because they either (1) didn't watch any games before then or (2) they did but talking about it would require them to say something positive.
I'm more than used to people acting like this with football, but this baseball variant has a different feel to it. Oh well, let the idiots continue to look like idiots.

The fair weather fans come out of the woodwork when we win, but have no clue why we are winning but have all the answers when we lose.

And don’t forget, we’re missing 2 starters who are very good in the field and at the plate. We won’t get one of them back, have to wait about a month on the other. That changes things. Hang in there. We’ve got good leadership.

This isn’t always the case but most of the time the people who complain often didn’t ever play the game at a high level so they don’t understand the failures that come with the game. Overreactions towards bad play during a game are ridiculous sometimes. I never have a problem with overreactions to coaching decisions. I myself get frustrated with our pitching management. Decision making is controllable which warrants criticism more than physical errors by the players.

My concerns
Apr 22, 2024, 11:31 AM
|
|
- starting pitching lately esp mid week and early weekend hasn't been great. We can't keep giving up crooked numbers in first few innings
- injury bug has bit us hard. Cam can't throw well, and won't be able to. Starting SS with ACL and out for season. Plus plus defensive outfielder just starting to get bat warm, breaks wrist and gone till post season prob
- bats have been colder lately, but isn't necessarily a bad thing, every team hits a slump sometime in season, just hope we can be more consistent come mid may and beyond
