I think it’s more the latter. He’s done well everywhere he’s been. My guess is that he’s aiming to turn Clemson’s offense around over the next couple of seasons and parlay that accomplishment into a head coaching gig.

IDK if it's the lack of talent/injuries, the (very) offensive line or Dabo shutting him down.

I say it's the talent level and execution at every skill position, QB included.

If you heard Dabo's interview after the game he is still controlling the play calling..

Exactly - I think CDS just wanted to get out of Th Roach with a W

Play as conservative as he could to just not create opportunities for turnovers and give the Chickens that dreaded momentum.
I’m sure that CDS was hitting the brakes on the entire offense, probably frustrating Riley and Cade and the other offensive players.
However, after the week of the FLU leading up to the game, and the injury-ridden WR corps, he had to throttle the offensive playbook.

Not saying he is the Venebles of the Offense yet but…
Defensive rankings 2011: 81st 2012 (BVs 1st yr): 46th 2013: 23rd 2014: 3rd
Even BV took a few year to fix his side of the ball with very few legit pro prospects. Give the man some time to implement his system with his players. It’s not always plug n play

It's talent, how many dropped balls were there last night? We should've beaten them by 4 TDs.

Seemed the defense SC ran confused us. Did not seem to know how to attack. We certainly don’t have an ETN Trevor or his receivers out there. So it makes me think the talent level rather than being above average is just average.

They kept switching gaps just before snap and after blocking calls were made. Didn’t seem like we were adjusting to that on passing plays

He took a TCU team with much less talent to the college football playoff. Something is not right about the way this offense performed this year.

We got good athletes but not great. Wiggins, Mafah being the exception. Still, it’s how you play as a TEAM that is key. Plenty examples of teams that have been loaded with stars but fell flat. Still, I will take a team loaded with good enough that plays well as a team. Clemson will be fine next year. In the playoffs for sure

One issue I see is a lot Dabo plays (that didn’t work last year) and aren’t working this year. I’ll assume he is forcing this guy to use with the plats offense he brought from tcu. because I followed TCU last year and this is not the offense he was running at tcu. I also wish we ran the ball more often. Oline might have issues on pass blocking, but they have done a good job with run blocking throughout the season.

Recruiting rankings say that we have elite talent on offense.

So either:
A. All of the recruiting services as well as our coaches were very wrong about many of our players.
or
B. These players have not developed very well.
Either way, it calls our coaching into question.

Curious on the wr rankings as “elite” but I know many were 4*. That said, they’ve all been hurt fairly regularly (coaching?). I do think we haven’t recruited really high end speed and that is a missing piece.

Drops and non-combative receivers. The receiver corps as a whole doesn't catch or battle well. The QB hasn't done a great job of getting them the ball. I did see for the first time, an effort at ball placement by the QB - back shoulder, etc. But they still don't catch well.
They can't catch, or throw, you can't run anything but a run based offense.

I'm just throwing it out there.
Maybe, just maybe, it has something to do with all the offensive assistants on his staff with zero prior D1 coaching experience?

there is no "maybe". There is no other top 10 program's coaching staff that even REMOTELY looks as homer-ish and inexperienced as ours. And like it or not, that is 100% on Dabo.

I'd like to add another level of complexity to this question...
Nov 27, 2023, 9:06 AM
|
|
Could be that the coaching of the skill positions has dropped off considerably.
-fumbles by both backs is a problem
-catching the ball is a problem
-pass pro from the Rbs is a problem
-blocking on the outside from the WRs is a problem
-route running precision is a problem
All these things were pretty tight back when Tony and Jeff were coaching the RBs and WRs

Recruiting on the Oline has been poor and this staff has never coached blocking well. We don't block well. Therefore our offense doesn't work.

I dont think its fair to judge a completely new OC after one year
Nov 27, 2023, 11:42 AM

With a first year QB
Losing our best OL injury (Parks)
And inheriting a WR room full of a bunch of busts and decimated by injury
He and Dabo should know pretty well what they need to go get in the portal this off-season.
Now if we have a repeat performance next season, this will be a legitimate question
