So many fans fall into the "statistic" trap when it comes to players, especially with DTs. They do so much that doesn't get noticed on the stat sheet. Taking on double teams to free up linebackers. Stunts and twists to create rushing lanes for LBs/DEs. Gap integrity on zone plays to force RBs to take away a lane for RBs. They don't get a stat for any of those. But they are vital for our style of defense to work.
I thought Woods looked really good. He's going to be a great one.

Many times a casual viewer doesn't realize that the tackles being made by LBs and DEs were the direct result of DTs doing their jobs. Those things are noticed in film though.

Dexter Lawrence is a perfect example. He has hardly any sacks. His season high is only 7. But he's one of the top 5 interior defensive linemen in the NFL.
Like you said, it's difficult for casual fans to notice their impact.

FWIW, Woods was Clemson's highest-graded defender on Pro Football Focus (86.5/89.2 v. run/73 for pass rush/41.9 for tackling). Ranked seventh in pressures (16) and fourth in stops (18).

DT's job is to stop the run and take up space in the middle, if they happen to get sacks during the season, a bonus.

He had a very good year and will only get better. He will be the anchor for the DL next year.

Hope we can keep all of these great freshman from chasing some money! Woods, Parker, Barnes, Terrell, Brown, all having great years, I am sure they are being pursued by top schools because technically they are all free agents now which sucks!

Woods looked like a beast to me when I saw him in there. He generally got a big push up the middle and held ground. Not every DT is going to show up in the stat sheet like Aaron Donald. Perfect example of this is Grady Jarrett.
When he was a Tiger, BV was asked about the best player on his D. He said hands down it was Jarrett. Everyone was like what " you got Vic Beasley who's got so many sacks". He asked them why do you think he gets all of those sacks. Grady Jarrett was that immovable for e in the middle.

Very disruptive, one of those deals where other teams were aware of him and freed things up for other guys and the stats don't really show it. Him and Capehart should dominate next year. He'll get way more snaps next season with T.D. and Ruke out.
