Does anyone think that we should

Jan 11, 2022, 3:47 PM

do away with preseason polls and start later into the year, like the 1st of October or later, like the CFP rankings do?

All these preseason rankings are just nonsense. Look at how things went for the Top 10 or 15 in 2021. Not very accurate, which means the rankings were pretty much just wild guesses. Rankings will still always be prejudiced by opinion, but it might help keep things from being quite to subjective and introduce just a bit of objectivity.

It's not going to happen - but just curious if anyone else thinks it would be a good idea on their "perfect world of college football" wish list.

I almost miss the old computer-based polls that they used for the BCS rankings. None of them will be perfect, but it least it wasn't as subject to bias as the coaches and AP polls are.

Great idea but won't happen. Gives sportswriters something to talk about, and to some extent a way to help publicize early matchup games. Best thing to do is ignore it.

would be no way to track all wins/losses vs Top 5, Top 10, Top 25 teams. You'd basically be playing unranked teams every week -- not to mention being unranked yourself.

preseason polls

are fun to think on during off season. They are endless and do no harm. History shows they are crap.
I have no problem with them, enjoy them as they are many.

The first AP and Coach's polls are the ones I don't like. They are the real crap. These do have influence. The CFC is influenced by them no matter what they claim. They should hold back at least a few weeks.

My "official" preseason poll is where we left off the last year as teams earned that. Georgia should start #1 and all others start where they ended up.

Instead preseason polls are about perceived schedules and perceived players. They are all a crap guess. History proves preseason experts do not exist.

Vegas odds and making money for Vegas and betting lines. They also are used as political advantages for the have's and not the have not's. For instance if Bama is #1 and gets beat by UGA who's #6 in the preseason poll then the power structure doesn't alter much and the SEC money is still right back where they were maybe even stronger now. Because Bama drops to #4 and UGA moves to #2. Now Bama is insulated when there are 6 teams at the end with similar resumes. If you're in the top 5 then you are basically given the license to lose at least one maybe two games and still stay alive for the playoff where TV contracts are banking on viewership and profits. It keeps the big dogs in the fight with more cushion than those who are fighting to get a seat at the table.

Its definitely benefited us in the past. We've lost some head-scratchers but stayed in the top 4 b/c we started the season at #1 or #2.

should publish their poll earlier in the season, hopefully, to eliminate any undue influence from the other polls.

Even more ridiculous are the Heisman 'favorites' before anyone has played a single down.
