Poor roster management, a bust on the QB recruiting, O line been struggling for years, failure to use the transfer portal , receivers seem to be poorly coached , too many legacy family and friend recruits ( why did OSU not offer Herbstreit boys their legacy recruits) play caller as Off Cord rather than true Off Cord such as Chad Morris and others

Yes signs have been there but coaches did not pay any attention until to late to avoid this year collapse

LOL. The free transfer rule hasn't even been around a year.

Who would you have tried to get in the transfer portal during the spring? Literally the only positions coming out of spring that was a concern was Center and Safety.
Well, Makuba has turned out to be a great player as a true freshman, so that wouldn't have helped. Center is the only argument. Do you really think that getting a center in the transfer portal would've made much difference considering all of the injuries? I don't even know if there was a center available.
The transfer portal argument is the dumbest argument in the world for this particular season. Now, going forward, if we don't use it, then yes. Major mistake. But Dabo already said that we are going to use the portal and we for sure will given how many people we have transferring out.

we've lost 20 players to the portal since 2018/2019 and replaced them with WHO?
we haven't replaced them in the next recruiting class b/c our classes have stayed roughly the same size regardless.......16-20 players. Family, friends, Daniel HS players have all "earned" schollies somehow........it's simple math.
It was admirable that Dabo didn't/hasn't "oversigned" in classes, but NOW, unfortunately with the changes in the CFB landscape (which I HATE BTW) Dabo HAS to OVERSIGN AND use the portal......I don't think he has a choice unless he just wants to "die on his pride sword" standing his ground on the matter.

There was nobody to replace them prior to this past season.

The type of players that we wanted would not be willing to sit out an entire season.
The free transfer year just started this past spring. We returned our entire defense. We had a sh!t ton of WRs and RBs. The only thin position was interior of OL...namely center.
Moving forward, however, I'm in agreement. We've got to utilize the transfer portal. The great thing about the transfer portal is, once you get a player from the portal, they CANNOT transfer again (for free). So they are stuck with you even if they don't get as much playing time as they expect.
It's much less risky to recruit the portal than recruit HS guys. High school guys can transfer out after a year. Portal guys cannot.

he put Pearman in charge of the portal a couple years ago just to "say he did something" but didn't really explore that as an option. You don't know what's out there unless you're willing to try. There's actually a Center transfer that transfered to Baylor from Miami (OH) that's doing really well on a decent team right now...........that's just a small example of "if you don't look, you're never gonna find it". While the free transfer rules been out for a year, the actual PORTAL has HURT us for the last 3-4 years from a NUMBERS perspective. The problem with that is how Dabo has BACKFILLED those scholarships.........the friends/family/legacy backfill schollie has to stop. You also have to over sign now b/c of the transfers. Dabo HATES all of that and I'm not sure that he changes his mindset on the matter.
I'm not saying DEPEND on it or build the program on it, but yes, as you agreed Dabo MUST utilize it.

Yes, we are short handed but a school can only sign up to the allowed number of players they can have on scholarship. As I said months ago, this year and probably the next couple will be hard to deal with numbers because of COVID year. I do agree that we should always have 85 people on scholarship and if we don't, we need to change that. With the December signing now, finding good players to replace players that transfer or turn pro between December and February is a challenge because most will be leftovers.

Hindsight is always 20-20. We were probably dancing in the Athletic Center when DJ signed and to call him a bust now is easy. There have been many children born after the raincoat burst so hindsight is poor sight.
