Clemson gestapo

I am all for law and order, but troubled by the actions of the Clemson police toward my son, a Clemson freshman, yesterday. He was walking with friends in lot 4. One had a ROOT BEER in a cookie. A cop stopped and asked if it was alcohol. Nothing wrong with that. But after they told him what it was, he said "I need to see some ID". They asked if he meant student ID, And he said no, real ID. They produced the ID, He looked them over then gave them back and said "####, no fakes."
Little over the top, don't you think?

But reasonable suspicion must be based on that, not speculation or surmise, or downright guesswork. There must be some fact about the situation or behavior tending to indicate illegal activity. Without any actual indication that a young man is trying use a fake id, or any id, there is no reason to ask for id.

Have your rapid deployment force on hand but keep them out of sight. Public display of body armor and assault rifles has a real banana republic feel to it.

Assault weapons, you're hilarious

Pretty obvious you know nothing about guns.
CUPD carries AR-15 rifles. They are not assault weapons. Actually, they were designed by Eugene Stoner in the early 1950's as a varmint rifle. Ranchers out west had horrible issues with groundhogs, prarie dogs, and coyotes tearing up their farms and needed a cheap, high velocity cartridge that could be fired quickly with extreme accuracy out of a lightweight, extremely accurate rifle. So Remington invented the .222. Armalite and Stoner took the .222, put it through some experimental rifles, tweaked the design, then came out with the .223 Remington to go along with their new prairie dog/groundhog/coyote hunting rifle: the AR-15.
Then the military saw the design, liked that it was lightweight, compact, accurate, and could carry a lot of bullets. The Military then made the .223 a tad more powerful, creating the 5.56 NATO cartridge. Then they took the AR-15, completely gutted it, rebuilt all the internal mechanisms so they could shoot 3 round burst and full automatic, and upgraded the barrels and receivers with stronger materials. The military named their new rifle the "M-16A1 assault rifle". Later editions included the M-16A2, M-16/M203, the M-4, and the HK-416.
CUPD uses Ar-15s. They are not assault rifles. They are standard sport rifles and fire a relatively low-power cartridge. They are the most commonly owned firearm in the U.S. I own several.
The AR-15 is nothing like the M-16, the parts of the guns arent even interchangeable. They do have a similar appearance, but thats it.
Have you ever seen a professional car race? Like touring cars and such? Those are designed to be used and abused on a race track, they are REAL race cars that can do race car things. Now, have you ever seen some young kid driving around in a sporty coupe thats been modified with lowered suspension, loud exhaust, etc etc to make it LOOK like a race car? While the sporty coupe may look and sound like a race car, it is not a race car. It cant compete with race cars, it isnt designed to do what race cars do, it only has a similar appearance to a race car. This is the difference between the AR-15, a civilia hunting rifle, and the M-16, a fully automatic assault rifle that is not available to civilians OR police departments.
How do I know this? Because I have been an FFL dealer (Federally licensed firearms dealer, "gun seller") for a few years, and I'm also the FFL that CUPD, Anderson, and Greenville buy their rifles from. Believe it or not, only SWAT teams are allowed to use fully automatic weapons (and even then, they only "borrow" those weapons from federal agencies for a limited amount of time). They also have to buy their own guns and gear, so 99% of the gear police officers use are commercially available at your average gun store.

as you say, "high velocity cartridge that could be fired quickly with extreme accuracy" etc. It's a hybrid but effective weapon in that capacity, which is one of the reasons it's so extremely popular. While it's certainly great for hunting and varmint-extermination, it's a highly lethal and high-volume rifle versus people.

All rifle cartridges are high velocity. All semi-automatic firearms can be fired rapidly.
What the hell is a "hybrid weapon?" This is a semi-automatic rifle, shoots exactly like the Ruger 10/22 (.22 caliber rifle, a squirrel gun), the Benelli R1, the Remington 750. The only difference is the AR-15 is black and ugly instead of wood. All of these can have "high capacity magazines". Actually, those aren't real either, as the 30 round mags in an AR-15 are standard capacity.
"Highly lethal". Give me a break. All guns are highly lethal. Water is also wet.
"High volume", no such thing. 30 round mags are standard capacity. The Ruger 10/22 is available with 100 round magazines as a standard option from the factory.
Good lord, educate yourself.

You can assault someone with any weapon. If I use my grandfathers old single-shot shotgun, it would be an "assault weapon".
Also, the video you posted is dumb. That is a bump-fire stock. It essentially uses the guns recoil to increase the rate of fire. Bump firing is easy to do with any semi auto with enough recoil, this stock makes it easier to do. Even when you bump fire a gun, you are still shooting it in semi-auto (because its one round fired per pull of the trigger, albeit much more quickly).
However, bump firing a gun destroys the rifle. You cant take an AR-15 and bump fire it more than once or twice. Doing so completely destroys the barrel and gas impingement system which is the key functioning component of the rifle. The bump fire stock in this video literally shakes the gun apart and melts its internal components. Bump fire stocks are for cheap laughs only, they are not accurate and they quickly destroy the guns they are attached to because these guns are not meant to be shot that way. Ask me how I know, and I'll show you my old Smith and Wesson MP 15 that I completely destroyed after about 500 rounds of bump fire fun at the range one day.

Did you mean the AR-15 and M4? Because those parts are very interchangeable. The only real difference between the M4 and AR-15 is that an M4 can shoot fully automatic.
It's pretty absurd that you would argue a weapon I could carry into combat isn't an assault rifle.

The M4/M16 have lower receiver parts and the lower receiver is drilled and milled in ways that do not even exist in the AR15. Seems like this is another subject that you are clueless about.

The only parts that are interchangeable are the cosmetic parts. Thats it.
The internal Bolt Carrier Group, fire control group, sear, and safety detent parts are completely different.
The internal parts for an M-4 are not even available for the civilian market, the Firearm Owners Protection Act of 1986 mandated that no civilians can own any fully automatic weapons made AFTER 1986.
The M-4 came out in 1994. Now, the internal components of the M-4 and M-16 are the same. it is legal for a civilian to own one of maybe 100 M-16s available to civilians if they want to pay a few thousand dollars in tax stamp ownership fees and $25,000+ for the actual gun.
However, it is impossible to acquire replacement parts for any fully automatic weapons as its illegal to distribute them to civilians. Even if you could get the parts, they will physically not fit inside of an AR-15. The internal mechanisms are completely different.

So now because students are randomly questioned about fake ids, which i'm sure aren't a problem on a college campus, Clemson PD is akin to the Nazi secret police? An organization who's methods involved murder and torture...oh brother.

I have never been impressed with police even once in my life
Sep 3, 2017, 11:47 AM
|
|
I have never been arrested, never been in trouble and my last speeding ticket was in 2003 in Louisiana. So this is not coming from an adversarial point of view. They are to protect and serve and there have been maybe three or four times that I have needed their assistance and got not ne ounce of it. They also have terrible attitudes most of the time. I will admit that they have a very tough job, maybe the toughest depending on where they work, and they are severely underpaid. Maybe that is the reason they have such a bad attitude.
1. My wife and her brother had a flat driving to Atlanta from Los Angeles. They had the flat on the interstate in Arkansas, near a populated area. This was before cell phones, about 1995. The brother got out to change the tire as he very well knows how to do. When he got to the last lug nut, it simply would not come off. Nothing would make it come off. They sat there on the side of the interstate for five hours. Police passing all day long and never once stopping to assist when they were trying to wave them over. I understand its not their job, but when you see the same couple stranded for 5 hours, don't you think you should check. Finally, a motorist stopped only because a big bag of cans blew out of the back of his truck right at that spot. So he stopped and they told him of their situation. He said I have a battery motorized lug remover but I have to go home and get it. They figured they would never see him again, but to their surprise, he came back. To this day, my wife says God had a hand in that bag of trash blowing out of that truck at that very time and spot.
2. I'm in Atlanta and walking up to the Georgia Dome. I ask the cop on the corner that is supposed to be directing traffic but not doing so, if I am on the right route to a certain avenue. He didn't even look at me and said keep moving.
3. I'm in Atlanta and an 18 wheel delivery truck has the exit of the entire parking lot I'm in blocked and people are trying to get out. All the delivery driver had to do was pull forward about 10 feet. He refused. A cop stops at the red light in his car right there. We all approach him to for the driver to move but he doesn't want to bother to pull out of traffic and do anything. We are start looking at his name tag to get it right when we call and complain and he was very nasty and said yep yall go ahead and take my name, I don't give a ####.
4. My graduation form Clemson and I've told this story before. My aunt, grandmother and grandfather were staying at my cousin's apartment behind the Tigertown area. Actually it was a house. Someone came banging on the door, threatening to come in an rape my pregnant aunt and kill everyone. They were very drunk, but Charles Manson acting. They were yelling through the dorr that he must have the wrong house and to go away that they were going to call the police. He was very much like a Charles Manson trashy looking ragmuffin like that group was and talking about pregnant ####### etc. They called the police and nobody ever came. This was the December graduation and the person that answered the phone at the police station said they were all at a department Christmas party. Unbelievable. They started praying that the door would hold as he was pounding so hard the door was pushing in. I guess their prayers were answered because the door never gave way and the person finally just went away as mysteriously as they came.
5. Here in Atlanta, they are often the most dangerous drivers speeding when they aren't even going to a call. Many people have been killed in Atlanta due to police chasing someone too fast for what they were doing or speeding to a call that wasn't an emergency. ONe of the many people killed was the wife of the Atlanta Braves trainer when their family was going to the Peach Bowl one New Year's Eve.
They do not have a high level of education and their temperament is that they are not far rempved form the other side of what they police.
So don't feel bad, that's just the way they are. I really don't have much use for them and I am very much a law abiding citizen.

I was about 27 and I was sleeping in my car absolutely drunk as can be parked on the side of the road. A cop car pulls up with 2 cops in there. They asked me what I was doing. I can barely explain anything, but I did relay that I realized I was way too drunk to drive. They look at my ID and take me home to the address on my ID. I woke the next day and felt so lucky.

unless there's probable cause or an investigation from probable cause.
Next time film them while asking why they need to see "your papers".

Was your sheltered bubble burst?

Many folks deal with a-hole cops on a daily basis. Most TNet folks don't care until it impacts their bubble.
Sorry you had a run in with an a-hole cop. Most are great and work hard. A few are more harassing than rent-a-cops.

Evident on Live PD. Bullcrap traffic stops to look for drugs. Police need to catch some real criminals instead of screwing with people to raise revenue.

and security of all students by checking for fake IDs and doctored drinks in possession of minors? Civilized people always give up individual rights for security.

CUPD is an example of a ridiculous accesorized police department

They simply have way too many toys and personnel for a town this small. Bc of done unfortunate events of the past several years and further funding the cupd has been beefed up to a level that is frankly stupid. I see them come in restaurants on a lazy weeknight in gear that you would expect to see in Tikrit circa 2005. Simply too many cops with not enough to do.

The overwhelming majority of the cops do a great job and I appreciate they are there. There are a few who should be in another line of work.
