Thoughts from the bridge accident on Hartwell.

When my brother was in college at Clarkson in upstate NY they went to a waterfall pool one day w friends. Everyone was jumping off the normal spot and it was fine.
His friend decided to climb up higher to jump and when he did he didn’t make it to the pool, he hit the rocks. Helicopter flew in for rescue but of course it was too late.
We really have to teach our children not to take risks like this regardless of being cool/high/drunk. I’ve done my fair of stupid shiat and I should be dead several times so I guess I really can’t talk. But I hope our kids don’t make the same mistakes we did.

he had a higher GPA but was with honors, not high honors. I still hold it over his head.
True fact - ever semester at CU I either raised or kept my cumulative GPA, the lowest cumulative score I had was my first semester freshman year. Papa G buckled down after that C in freshman English.

Who jumped off that one the first week of classes. Broke his neck and he had one of those giant halo contraptions around his head the rest of the semester.

If male teenagers had the brains of 35+ yr old dudes, their teenage years would be a lot more boring, but infinitely safer.
The military would have far fewer 19 yr olds ready to go to war too.
I hate what happened on Hartwell, but I deserved to die multiple times for some of the dumb stuff I did as a kid. I am grateful I lived to tell about some of it.
It's a fine line as boys grow by doing some dangerous things safely, but avoiding the really dumb stuff that has a poor risk:fun ratio.
