The portal conundrum

Serve the players you recruit and build them up to be better people and graduate. Which is the mission of the university as a whole. You may or may or may not sacrifice wins doing it this way.

Or, succumb to the football only crowd and take transfers that may not fit your culture. You may or may not gain wins doing it this way. And it could isolate the football program from the university as it becomes an entity to itself.

Just a point:

There are kids in the portal who fit. True, they may be few and far between. Just like there are HS kids who we sign that turn out not to be "fits."

Two things can be true @ the same time.....

Being a cultural fit is only one of about 10 things which need to align. Teams like the coots and Miami are revolving doors so they have to spend a lot of money to take who they can just to fill a roster. Elite teams cherry pick a few elite guys but pay millions for them

It is not an either or. Recruit the best high school players you can and if the numbers do not work out then search the Portal. The 85 number has got to work one way or another.
