has done and accomplished for the team and for herself in her career at Clemson getting the Softball program started and all but that last inning the B-5th was very very indicative of her 2024 season as she would always always come thru in the clutch with runners on base and even with 2 outs the last 3 seasons

I too appreciate everything she has meant to this softball team. She definitely is a program changer. However, she has been a shell of herself this year both at the plate & pitching for whatever reason. Still she is an once in a generation player.

You gotta wonder if there are personal life issues or an undisclosed injury. Either way I sure hope she finds success again. She made this program what it is

and as far as striking out we did not see that happen a whole lot in her first 3 seasons combined like we have seen this season.I bet she has more strikeouts this season than she had combined in her first 3 seasons.

If she had mono as reported, she should get a pass. She got no help this year when pitching.

She doesn’t. Outside of a couple games Val has been average. She likely should not have played this year but that isn’t because of mono or any other false narrative.

that she was approached by Oklahoma to transfer after last year but it fell through somehow and that she was mad about it all year.

It sounded completely false but it was something a few people were saying

I didn’t hear anything about that. Not saying it didn’t happen but I don’t think it explains this season. Val was a great player but hasn’t been that this season regardless of when in the season. The thing about her being mad and intentionally not playing well doesn’t mesh Val - she just isn’t playing well. She could be burned out or not motivated (I’m not necessarily saying she is) but I definitely don’t believe she decided not to try to play well.

I appreciate everything Val has done at Clemson. She will go down as one of the best for a very long time; it is just too bad the season has to go the way it has.

Will we hear anything about the health of her pitching arm after the season? I don’t think she’s got close to her early career velo and hitting her spots with the drop pitch was inconsistent at best. Since coming back from the concussion she hasn’t pitched well heading into the 3rd inning. I don’t understand why Rittman didn’t reserve her for relief appearances and/or sub her out after 2nd innings (and possibly bring her back later in games). Each start the Tigers ran right into a train wreck in the 3rd or 4th inning. That’s on Rittman for no figuring out how to manage that.
