DJ Recruiting Profile

Nov 29, 2022, 11:08 AM

Here is 247 Sports breakdown of DJ. Its almost laughable.

Big, strong armed quarterback with generational arm strength. Has a big frame but looks lean and is well put together. Has one of the strongest arms in recent memory and has won ‘long ball’ contests with a throw of 80+ yards. Is much more than a big arm. Shows great touch, accuracy to all three levels of the field and greet natural feel for throwing the football. Understands when to take a little off, throws with anticipation and is a plus athlete as well. Has the ability to run zone read and is a very good runner in the open field. Can buy time and is accurate throwing down the field rolling out to his right or his left. Natural leader and a great teammate who is also a potential high round draft pick in Major League Baseball. Can still improve going through progressions and finding secondary receivers as well as escaping pressure. Upside is off the charts. Projects as a impact upper tier Power 5 starter and future early NFL draft pick.

"Knows when to take a little off throws" that is hysterical. "shows great touch and accuracy" even more hysterical. "Very good runner in the open field" if you count dead legging it every time as good then ok. I could go on and on with everything that is wrong here, but you all get the point. One thing they did get right is he needs to improve on his progressions. I think that shows that the coaching staff (Streeter) has done a poor job of developing him.

There's an awful lot going on with him that none of us are privy to. It'll be real interesting if it ever comes to light. The kids is definitely talented, or was, anyway. There have been many rumors as to what is impacting him so much, but it would be really interesting to know the full story one day. I can't believe there's not more to it than just "DJ sucks." I know he had his parent's divorce last year, but I think there's more to it than even that. Who knows.

Curious to hear more to this if there is any.

The one rumor that has made the most sense to me is that his heart isn't into playing and was talked out of quiting football a couple of times.

Dabo implied earlier this year before the season that DJ was graduating in December and that he had his plans. Personally, I took this as he was betting on himself to do enough to get a look in the NFL but in hindsight, could actually mean he intended on leaving football all together if the rumor I cited above turns out to be true.

At this point, I definitely would love some insight on the whole story at some point cuz it can easily drive a fan batty with how Dabo and co have been handling this (for better or worse).

This was exactly, 100% the kid we recruited. If Dabo and

our staff missed on the evaluation, everybody else with a pulse missed too. Projecting how these kids will respond at the next level is still tricky, as everybody is different, and every situation is different, due to numerous, inevitable variables.

DJ looked fantastic as a freshmen when called upon; every bit the heir apparent and can't-miss star. Anybody who suggests otherwise is trying to rewrite history. Then stuff happened. Yes, I know all of the possible causes and theories - some pretty obvious, many perfectly reasonable, some not so much. Let's assume they are correct - here's the problem - did we miss that completely on Cade? Why is he not able to contribute AT ALL when we desperately need a reliable back up? Did our coaches, along with every other "expert" miss on Cade as well? Did his parents divorce? Is he battling some hidden, unspoken injury? Or ...

Are we just doing a poor job of developing QBs and/or giving them an efficient offense in which they can learn and excel?
