This could easily be Dabo’s last. With all that is happening in college football, the media coming after him with every decision or move that he makes. Now, a number of fans questioning his recruiting strategy versus the portal. He has provided for his family very well and his past history almost, ALMOST guarantees him as head coach for a great many more years. I’ve stated on this board a few times in the last few years, he’s not going to the pros and I don’t think to another college program. I definitely see Dabo coaching young men in high school. He still loves his work and the students and too young for a rocking chair. Now………..with Clemson’s future possibly in a new conference, this would not be the opportune time to be working in a new coach. The 10-15% of you who want him gone because of the portal are going to be the same ones complaining when he resigns and moves on! Think long and hard on this one…..

Regardless of his age i could see him getting sick of the unfair recruiting shenanigans which run contrary to his enjoyment of developing young men into useful members of society.

But I don’t see Dabo coaching on a high school level. He is more of a motivator than an Xs & Os guy. He has made enough money to be very comfortable. I could easy see him as a talking head on a network, maybe even his own show, or an in game announcer for college football. While they like to question him they all would love to have him on their network. He is great in front of an audience and microphone.

Who are these 10-15%ers that you claim want Dabo gone? Some people may be frustrated that he doesn’t use the transfer portal but I haven’t seen anyone on here or elsewhere wanting him “gone”. BTW he’s not going anywhere. He knows he’s set and can do his thing his way at Clemson and get paid millions for it. Dabo is the only one I’ve heard threatening to leave if fans don’t like the way he coaches but that’s his schtick for getting people riled up.

I don't think it is that bad. He seems purposely defiant in some of his responses, knowing it will invite extra criticism. Perhaps that is by design as it reinforces the conversations he can have with HS recruits and their parents. He is selling that his program is different on many levels and he demonstrates that with his portal philosophy.
The guy is dumb like a fox and everything he does is pretty calculated. As I've said in other posts, if the results follow, then all will be well.

I wish I could give you more than one TU! Dabo knows what he wants to sell and he is wily enough to know how to do it. In the end, NIL and the portal may be too much to overcome, but I don't doubt for a moment he has a strategy...

Lol, I don’t know anyone who wants Dabo fired. I’ve actually heard a couple friends say they don’t care if he goes 0- 12 after winning two natys and six playoff appearances. I don’t share that belief, but I feel he should have a very long leash.

But, I think with all the changes Dabo has definitely thought about how much longer he's going to do this
The whole thing about getting rid of the “walk on” in college football might just be the straw that breaks his back
I think he's holding on until the NCAA gets blown up and they have a chance to reorganize.

I doubt very seriously that 10% to 15% want him gone. If I had to put a percentage on it, I would say less than 1%. After Danny Ford was fired, Clemson lost all relevancy for about 15 to 20 years. Dabo has produced multiple National Championships and eight ACC Championships. Anyone who thinks he is close to being let go is sorely mistaken. What are you even talking about.

Good poster…… But don’t agree with the post at all. I have a little bit of insight here and he is going nowhere. Like 0% chance. So this isn’t a situation where this could easily be his last. I would also point out it goes against everything he has talked about for tthe future of CLEM FB.
The 10 to 15% is a made-up number just like the 1.5% is. I literally know of no one who wants him fired. And I know a lot of Clemson people. But the vast majority of hard-core , long-time IPTAY members I know and converse with want him to use the portal as appropriate.(I.e. lightly). Other teams like Alabama, Ohio State and Florida State and Georgia have benefited from it. No one wants to use it as much as Florida State does …just sprinkle in lightly as needed. Just like we have benefited from summer official visits. Remember, Dabo used to be staunchly against that as well. You can always improve and tweak things as the landscape changes.
To me, at least Dabo has earned the right to do it his way so I don’t worry about it much. But like when we used to not host summer officials, IMO, it is unnecessarily stubborn to play the game with one hand tied behind your back.
From what I know, I still think he will use the portal eventually. I thought it was gonna be this year. When that first transaction happens, I think you will see a slow acquiescence to adding a select few (1-3) each year barring some change in the transfer rules.

up, more power to him. Clearly he will be missed, but no one coaches forever.
10-15% of Clemson fans do NOT want Dabo gone. That's nuts. Honestly I'm trying to think of a single post on Tigernet of "We need to part ways with Dabo" or "We should bring in so-and-so". None that I can think of in the past six years. Lots of fans don't agree with his portal approach. That's fine. We are literally the only school taking this stance. It's no surprise that some fans don't see the logic of it.
It would be interesting to see what Dabo would do if he walked away from College Football. I've always hoped he'd write a management/leadership book. He just has a different approach and such a focus on culture, I think it would be a great read. I can't imagine him doing broadcasting. I can see him coaching at a lower level but focusing more on some more charitable work. Who knows.

I wouldn't blame him one bit if he walked away after this upcoming season. There are a bunch of ungrateful fans (a lot on this board) who don't understand what it takes to win at the highest level and Dabo has done it twice. Unfortunately that's not enough for them so they'd rather have the AD grab a name out of a hat to coach and hope for the best

Just like the 1.5% number. Just haphazardly thrown out there with zero scientific/statistical proof. Saying that kind of stuff is divisive and best avoided. Every fanbase will have its distractors. You choose to coach in bigtime CFB @ a school where ppl deeply care...there will ALWAYS be some who dont agree with you. Comes with the job and the $11M contract. Never does any good to engage them publicly. NEVER. Rise above it and do what BV recommends......"Less is more...."
I know, I've seen it in several UF coaches and it rarely ends well. Completely unnecessary and usually self-inflicted.

Dabo is still speaking with optimism towards the future. He doesn’t like the portal mess but he also sees the potential for a course correction by college athletics back towards sanity. By not participating in the pay for play portal he insulates the program from the worst of that mess. He’s not a huge fan of NIL either but has come to understand how to atleast use it to retain the kids he’s developing. He’s most motivated by graduating players and that’s still something the program is doing successfully.

I will be laughing when the experts have been saying you have to use the portal and we go to the playoff this year.
We have 84 players on scholarship. We don't throw guys off the team like other coaches.
Its not how you get there as long as you get there.
