CLEMSON – The Clemson Tigers dismantled South Carolina State 73-7 Saturday afternoon in Death Valley – the second-largest margin of victory in Memorial Stadium history.
With such a dominating performance, there were several interesting statistical oddities that came out of the game. 73: Clemson scored 73 points in Saturday’s win – the most points since the 1981 game against Wake Forest, in which the Tigers scored 82. 66: The margin of victory was 66 points – the seventh largest margin of victory in school history, tying the 66-0 victory over Presbyterian College in 1957. 9 to 5: Clemson kicker
Ammon Lakip 9 to 7: Clemson had more players register a carry – nine – than South Carolina State had total yards rushing – seven. 49: The Tigers ran 93 plays Saturday afternoon, while South Carolina State only had 44 total yards. Thus, Clemson ran 49 more plays than the Bulldogs had yards. 0: Punter
Bradley Pinion 3: South Carolina State only gained a first down on three separate drives. 7: The Bulldogs actually gained 89 yards on the ground but lost 82 yards, giving them a grand total of seven total yards rushing for the game. 7-7-5: South Carolina State had seven kickoff returns, the same as the total rushing yards and two more than they had first downs (five). 342.6: Freshmen quarterback
Deshaun Watson 78: The total number of Clemson players that saw playing time in Saturday’s game. 25: 25 different Clemson defensive players registered a tackle. 7: South Carolina State had seven drives that ended with the Bulldogs losing yards.

wasn’t called into action Saturday afternoon, except to kickoff. The last time Clemson did not record a punt was in the 2009 ACC Championship game against Georgia Tech. Oddly enough, neither team punted in that game.
