Step 1 - denial. Next you will try to minimize.

Then you will try to rationalize, then you will try to justify.

BOA has established a history of debanking some folks...

Whether coincidence or not - BOA has the appearance of debanking those with whom the political left would disagree. They have debanked politically right lawyers involved in the 2020 election stuff (John Eastman) as well as some religious groups on very nebulous grounds.
I've seen no evidence that the Government has anything to do with BOA's actions but BOA does in fact debank quite a few folks. The fact that a lot of those that they debank happen to be right of the political spectrum could be coincidence but could also speak to some form of bias or that they fear being attacked by the leftist cancel culture mob if they don't disassociate with some folks right of the political spectrum.
BOA's debanking has been such that it has drawn the eye of 15 State attorneys general:

So there is some smoke with BOA's debanking but whether there is an actual fire has yet to be seen.
My understanding is banks have a lot of leeway when it comes to issuing/closing accounts. As a private company they can do what they please so long as they don't run afoul of civil rights issues. But... if BOA isn't debanking convicted felons, people who are in jail and other folk who get caught up in less than "respectable" behavior it does seem odd that they choose to debank a documentary film director who has broken no laws...

Chase did it in Missouri and the state stepped in and said Chase can do business with whom they want but if they are going to discriminate against a company for their political beliefs, Missouri does not have to do business with Chase because they are alienating half the U.S. population and 60% of Missourians.
The Chase CEO caved before he was forced to explain to the state legislature why the conservative business was cancelled.
Of course that will never happen in Whitmer's state.
